Barrel liners

Had a call from a friend who had just relined one of his Schuetzen rifles with a (name withheld to protect the innocent) brand liner in 25-20SS.  He mentioned that he was getting some very mediocre group sizes...nothing better than 1 1/2" at 100 yards, trying two different bullet weights, different alloys, H108 and 4227, different primers, seating depth, and so on.   

I would like to hear from folks who have personal experience with the different brands of liners, both successful and unsuccessful jobs.  Did it take any special steps to make these liners shoot?  What calibers and twists?  Brand names on the liners?  No BS permitted, please!  I'm just trying to get a handle on what works so that I can make recommendations to potential customers and feel comfortable with those recommendations!

I was out with your friend yesterday and he started to get it working by using Winchester Small Rifle Primers. Hope this helps.....

Yeah, it didn't like the recipe that had worked with the original bore for many years.

A TJ Enterprises 25-35 – 27”
1:10 Twist (6 groove) – ½” OD liner
with Meister 85gr Bullets and 2.5gr Unique at 50 yds offhand for a 25-20 WCF rifle that I made.  This my gallery match rifle and recipe

John Taylor installed a TJ liner in a Stevens 44 for me a couple of years ago in .22 Magnum and it shoots well for me. At least as well as I am able to shoot with a tang sight! I have seen a lot of positive comments here on the TJ liner.

are you guys seriously able to shoot those heavy rifles sillioute and make thos scores.   

you are all excellent shots.  my neighbor is a champion silloute shooter he can take a piesce of pipe put a sight on it and make it shoot just one of the special blessed people.

his stuff is at 200 yards and up of course using a modern rifle but amazing shooting whatever!!!

thanks guys for the encourement just a r/f b/r shooter but love these comments.

well i never saw anyone with so many plaques and trophs in my life. he has them stacked everywhere.   

300 yards and 70 to 80 of his targets standing upright and that heavy rifle out at arms length.   

dont even think there is nothing to it or he or these guys dont have raw talent to start with.

i have shot 1,000s of rounds b/r and i cant touch this kind of shooting. i suggested  since they now have a psl for him to take up 22 b/r and i got the worst look i ever got.

no prises to speak of now psl talking 5500 in money but he wont consider it.

raw talent-lots of practice - a winning shooter.
