Bob,
Its been a few years since I attended  a HP benchrest match. When I did the shooters using Sinclair/Witchita and sand bags/sinthetic were winning consistently against the unlimited class guys who used the one piece rests like tha Pappas. This was in the mid nineties. Manley Oakley was a friend of mine then and we used to hash over all the different types of rifles and rests. Even when Manley was in his eighties he kept up with all the latest hi tech gadgets.
The Pappas rest is nothing new.

So I guess I still dont understand why you would use a one piece rest.
One advantage I can understand would be the elimination of all shooting technique. All you do is mount the rifle in the rest aim and squeeze the trigger. That will cut down on required practice and a savings in ammo.
Once you have the machine working all that is require is mastering the wind flags. I have shot in hundreds of BR matches over the years and still havent mastered the wind flags. This is a lesson that takes some many years to learn and others no time at all.

I dont know of anyone other than Bev Pinney that is using a one piece rest. And even Bev's isn't solid but rather linked together to maintain distance. I tried to protest his rest off the line at Tacoma. Didnt work as nobody likes to rock the boat these days.

I've watched Jim Borton shoot BR, Tommy Mason, Jack Odor, Steve Garbe, Chuck Bordman,  Russ Weber, Pat Weber, Jay Scruggs, Ron Long, Earl Hines, Jim Luke, Jim Feren, Charley Dell, Gary Miller, Ron Long, The Hamiltons, Dave Purcell, and many other top BR shooters. not one of these shooters used a one piece rest. They all have one thing in common. They all practice and master the windflags. Ive shot a fair amount of trap too. Theres always the fellow who's trying to up his scores with some new shotgun or gadget.
So, I still dont understand the advantage to the one piece rest. It sure is a cool looking contraption. I'll bet I could modify it into a usable drilling fixture. Wink

From the ASSRA rules:  "Section 2.91 Sandbags and Rests  A sandbag or shaped rear rest sand filled bag made of leather or canvas may be used under the toe of the buttstock. No other device or support is permitted for the toe of the rifle. V-blocks or rests, guides, ways, or any such devices which may aid in alignment and realignment of the rifle, are prohibited. An anti-cant device (bob-sled) similar to the Pope style muzzle rest or the one described in Mann’s book is permitted. Also a spirit level or sight attached to the barrel is permitted. A simple stop may be attached to the front rest as an aid in realigning the rifle for the next shot. This may be contacted by the muzzle rest or the forearm at the discretion of the shooter if used at all. The front rest assembly and rear bag may not be connected mechanically or tied together. The shooting bench top surface is the only common connection between the two that will be allowed.
From the ISSA rules:  "8.4 Benchrest: This is a means for securing maximum accuracy with rifles and pistols. It  allows a table which permits the shooter to sit comfortably with both elbows on the surface. A sandbag may be used under the toe of the butt stock and under the barrel or forearm of the rifle. Front and rear rests may not be connected to each other or to the bench. A similar arrangement must be used for pistols. An anti-cant device (spirit level) attached to the rifle is permitted. In the spirit of this competition, no device or devices which approach a machine rest will be allowed.  However, a muzzle rest attached to the barrel is allowed provided it is no more than six inches wide, with a maximum height of 3 inches between the bottom of the barrel and the bottom of the muzzle rest. The attachment can be no more than 1 ½ inches front to back."

I forgot to mention my daughter Aliann who when she was fifteen beat Bob Vail with a 247 at 100 with a .22.

I was mighty proud of her that day. I coached her. I told Bob I'd coach him in the next match for twenty bucks. Bob offered me twenty bucks to leave him alone lol.

Aliann used a Stevens 44 on sandbags.  Wink

Good on her!  My daughter took the ladies match at Eau Claire, WI, a few weeks ago shooting my .308/32-20 Ruger No. 3 at 200 yds. with a 241-4X.  Her target bested both of my 200 yd. scope bench efforts... Grin  Shocked

Grin  Deborah finished college a year ago last May, and got married the following weekend!  No grandkids on the way, though.

BTW, it was her idea to meet me in Eau Claire for the match, since she lives in Minneapolis...she wanted to see me and her "honorary uncles" in the Schuetzen group!   Wink
