Looking for Wickliffe 76 information

I can't believe I found a place that has people with the same fascination of Single Shots I've had for 35 years!
Is there a chance anyone has any information on Wickliffes? I've had a Wickliffe 76 Deluxe in .270 for many years and have finally decided to see if there's any collector value or general interest in these rifles. Seems to be a high quality rifle. I think the receiver is based on the 44 1/2. I used it for Prong horn about 25 years ago and haven't had the opportunity to use it since. The Blue Book lists it pretty cheap. Then again it also says the Deluxe model is only available in 30-06. Obviously wrong since mine is .270. I know some of the company history but I'm really looking to see if there's any collector interest.

I prefer collecting 1900's single shots of all types and this .270 is kind of an orphan. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Huh

If you are legitimate with these questions, please take a few minutes to do a site search (using the little white block and magnifying glass icon at the right end of the tool bar) and see all the commentary about the early Wickliffes and the recent efforts to resurrect the design.  Two competing companies are (or were) trying to tell everyone how great theirs was and how much better than their competitor they were building them.  The original production has been discussed quite a bit as well.  If you have specific questions about the care and firing of these rifles, there are several active participants in this forum who will chime in and answer you, as they have actually "been there, done that" with the Wickliffe.

If you have anything to do with either of the above-mentioned companies, please be kind enough to allow the subject to rest.  You are not gaining any goodwill with your tactics stirring up the subject.

If you join the ASSRA and start getting the Journal there is a good article in the new Journal on the Wickliffe.

Thanks for the warm welcome Green Frog. I had no idea there was some kind of previous bad blood here. My interest in the Wickliffe is purely for my own satisfaction. I have no interest of any kind in some company trying to push their product. As I said, I know some company history just not much about the overall interest in these guns. This is not something I collect. I just acquired one years ago.

I'll look into the article and membership mentioned by 40_Rod, Thanks.

Hello folks,
My name is John Johnston. I wrote the article for ASSRA Journal and one in Jan.2009 for Guns about the old and new Wickliffe. I am no expert but do know a little about it and where to get parts. So if you have a question email me at olsingleshot@gmail.com. I own two: one in .222mag and the other is a .300 Win. mag both shoot less thean 1" at 100 yards.By the way Wickliffe was recently sold again.

Yes it was. Tom Ondrus had health problems which forced the sale. It now belongs to Jerry Koschoff. He plans on building the actions with a long tang to assist in mounting tang sights. He is just getting started so it may be a while. No matter what you think of their looks, they are shooting machines in a well made, hell for stout, action.

As far as I know there is only one Wickliffe. There were people claiming to own Wickliffe. Tom Ondrus called it Wickliffe 76.
