how do the 80 mm celestrons match up with the80 mm kowa  clarity and detail at 200 to 500 yds  thanks art

It all depends on which scope you are referring to. There are scopes with Fluirite lenses (FL) and scopes without this treatment. I have 2 Celestrons (80 mm straight body, angled eye-piece) and a Kowa TSN-822M (straight eyepiece 82 mm). None have the FL treatment. I can see 45 cal bullets hit at 1000 yds. I haven't tried the Celestrons at that distance. At 235 yds they work just fine. Another alternative (assuming the non-FL) is the Celestron 100 mm scope. It is only 104.00 more at the link I will post. Basically you get what you pay for, but I am more than happy with my Celestrons. If they had been on the market at the time, I might not have bought the Kowa.

Another scope you might consider is the 24x Unertl. When I was shooting at Camp Perry Champions Choice had a rack with about 15 scopes on it. You could look thru each one at the same target under the same conditions and I can guarantee you the Unertl outshined them all. The Unertl comes up for sale every now and then and they are really quality scopes.

I have two "Konus" products. a pair of binoculars and a 100 mm spoting scope. I find there quiltiy top notch. I think the 100 mm may be overkill and wish I'd gotten a 80 mm instead. I compared bino's with Luepold before buyings the Konus product.

I've got and like the Konus 80 except for the stand. Good value, clear image, without a magnified price.

There are two Unertl spotting scopes currently on eBay.  One is a 63mm with three eyepieces for a selection of magnification up to 32X.  It looks like a nice scope, but may be overpriced, even for a Unertl.  The other is, what looks to be, a really nice 100mm which is rarely seen.  It also has a nice tripod.  At the current bid price of $330 it's a steal.  Do a search for Unertl or for the following item #'s

I have a 100 MM Celestron with angled eye piece. It compares favorably to Kowa scopes.

The 100 mm scope is a very large team scope. It is in the neighborhood of 36 " long and very heavy. I have a friend who has one and it cost 2000.00 about 10 years ago. I think they finally went up to over 4000.00. The original tripod is not with the scope and it was about 6' tall. It also came in a wooden case.

Hi everybody,
I went back and found this but it doesn't really answer what I want.
I have a  Swarovski spotting scope 25-40x75 which I bought new around twenty years ago and for nearly all of its life its just been sitting in my safe. Seems a lot of money to have sitting there not being used. Thought to trade it on and buy a cheap one to replace it.
Any advice on cheap spotting scopes would be appreciated.

Ive got a twenty year old Simmons variable I'll trade ya.
It was cheap when new and is all beat up now. Still works good. Sometimes the caps fall off because the threads are getting a little thin. It still works good though. Well, sometimes the body unscrews when you change power on it, only once in a while. It still works good though.
