A friend today gave me a cigar box of amunition she found in her late fathers stuff. There are 2 boxes of rem umc indoor target 22s. they are wadcutters. one box is blue other is green. when i can i will try to post pics. How collectible is this stuff before i try it in my martini 12/15?  also 2 boxes of rem longs. some 32 s&w shorts some Win 38S&W.  She also gave me a spanish copy of a S & W that is unmarked other than made in spain. Also gave me a S &W first model in 32 rimfire. It was a good day.

Tom,
The 22  wadcutters first came out in the mid 1930's, they only lasted a few years if that long, they got a bad rap because they would not feed very well in repeaters, of course they work just fine if you single load. There to collectible to shoot, in fact there are so hard to come by that a lot of guys have never heard of them.

Tom,
Back then just like now it seemed that guys did not read the box about them being not for auto feed, in fact they did not work very well in some bolt actions.

Another odd thing was the high velocity marking for indoor target shooting ?. I think it was just a marketing thing.

I just checked with a few friends and they said if the boxs and ammo are in nice condition they would pay between $ 25.00 and $ 40.00 a box for them. Think about that while your shooting them, or better yet before you shoot them, and if you want to sell them or trade them off for good shooting ammo let me know.

Thats getting close to the price of modern amo.
Side of box says
Due to increased pressure and velocity of these cartridges they should be used only in high grade arms in first class condition.
These cartriges are the result of many experiments and tests to produce a target cartridge to cut a clean hole in the target.
NOT FOR USE IN AUTOMATIC ARMS

Your friends have any idea what was considered high velocity here?
I may part with the leist of the two. The other will look good next to my no.4 takedown RB.
Thanks for ur input

WOW,
You can buy a lot of really good match ammo for that kind of money.

I passed that info on to a friend that is writing a book on the old 22 ammo. He said that a box of that ammo probably will not bring that kind of money. I guess anyone can put any price they want on what ever they have, but will it sell ?.

He recommended that you check out some of the ammo auctions, that will give you a very good idea of what it actuality sells for. Or better yet he recommends that you contact them and see what they will buy yours for. Not long ago he seen a perfect box sell at a gun show for $ 75. and he thought that was a bit high but it was a perfect box.

How can yours be better than mint, I thought mint was like new or about as good as it gets ?. Thank God I'm not a collector. Anyway, if you do shoot some of it please let us know how it shoots.
