Marlin, Have to ask where you are getting those nose caps, or are you pouring them? Really nice rifles. Thanks for the suggestion of WOP, tried it and really like the results. Nice hard finish with no brittleness, polish to the sheen you want.

Ballards may be weaker,

The nose cap on the project rifle came from John King. The second Roller in .22LR was already assembled, so that nose cap is factory.
John's castings are very smooth, and take very little polishing to complete.

Saw another #1 Sporter at our OAC singleshot show yesterday, and was sorely tempted to buy it! It had a 30" full octagon barrel, and single set trigger, but the caliber turned me off. It was chambered in .38 rimfire. Had it been almost any centerfire caliber I would have figured some way to buy it. The price was not bad, and condition was great!

The action is definitely a Rem. #1 action. Is there a Gemmer marking on the barrel? It looks like a sporting action with a military barrel screwed on. Thr threads are the same unless we're talking about shotguns and 7mm rifles(#5 smokeless actions) R. Binger
