Anybody have this problem?  When I lived in Rock Island WA I got a copy of the journal that had Strawberry jam and fingerprints on the pages.

I've gotten mail pretty badly mangled, and usually with a sorry note attached formally by USPS.  My postal gal always wants me to open the packages she thinks are guns, so she can see what old clunker I bought!

Somebody at my post office is not only a gun enthusiast but a slow reader!  My mags (SSR-J and BPC News) both tend to come anywhere from a couple of days to a week late and now it's starting with my N-SSA Skirmish Line as well.  I've gotta either get that guy a subscription of his own or sign him up for a speed reading course!!

My local PO is very anti-gun. Although, when I go there for a shipping-box, they are quite helpful. My mail delivery person is a hunter and always opologizes (sp) for any damage to firearms related magazines or letters . Usually it's BPC News that is roughly handled.

And postage stamps are going-up again in May to $0.44. GEEEEZZZ!

Here is a question:
I may be wrong but it seems that lately there has been an up tick in the number of members who have had just the wrappers of their journals delivered or the magazine shredded. Delivering the magazine in sealed plastic would be a way to cut down on this but it is an additional cost would you be in favor the sealed plastic bag if it meant a $5.00 increase in dues?

John , et al,  When this came up in the past I talked to a couple of postal workers.  It was explained to me at the time that if paper wrapped magazines are fed into the sorting and canceling machines the wrong way it peels the jacket back and tears it.  sometimes it can rip the magazine out of the jacket.  It was blamed on trainee error/high turnover/work stress and employee attitude at the larger sorting facilities.   It was kind of episodic with occasional incidents that were fairly isolated.  A much larger problem was the problem of chronic delays of delivery in some areas.

I have noted that a few of my subscription magazines are coming it plastic envelopes now-- but I hate to see more plastic in use.
One option might be a heavier stock paper for the jacket to make them more damage-proof plus a sticker or two to hold it closed.  SigPress could advise on this

For those with a pattern of delivery delay/damage problems; I talked to a local PO guy and fellow shooter about this right after lunch.  His suggestion: you might make a visit to the local PO and politely ask the counter clerk if you could speak to the postmaster or his/her assistant.  Explain that you need to find out how to contact the postal inspector service since you suspect that someone at a PO farther upstream is tampering with your gun magazines.  With the pressure the PO is currently under the last thing the PO wants is a scandal about their employees messing with customers mail because of their personal political attitudes. If it appears that a PO employee is discriminating against anyone by messing with their mail--they WILL investigate. Mail tampering is a federal felony. Of course the the word of your concern will spread through the local facility and that alone may solve the problem.  You can of course file an actual complaint if there is a pattern to the damage.

I've had the same problem 2 or 3 times with the SSRJ.  All my other gun magazines arrive in great condition.  After reading the replies, I'm inclined to think it might not be the USPS's fault.  It looks to me that it’s happening somewhere closer to the printer.
