recycle medals?

I am cleaning out my shop and have quite a few medals  won in ASSRA, Coors, and local midwest matches... what does one do with them 20 years after they had any significance? I have no one in my family that has any interest in them... is there any market for these things? Or can they be donated to some organization that will make good use of them? What do you do with them- I'd like some suggestions.

display them for your grand kids,
or donate them to your local club for prizes at the matches!

They might help make an interesting display in the EG clubhouse.  Particularly if labeled with a simple who/what/when/where.
I think the Coors ones would be of real interest since it was pretty much a true national match--of so I've been told.
I know I'd love to see a display that included some of the more unique ones from past years, especially if we could find ones from the "golden age".

I remember in a movie where a fellow shot a hole through the center of a shooting gold medal.  That would be a lot of fun at your range.  have a "shoot a hole through the middle of the medal" shoot??  Tom.

maybe we can use the nomination and vote for who wears it while we shoot at it as a fundraiser Grin

Hmm... those are all interesting ideas- would the designated "target bearer" have to remain stationary, or could he/she move around (dodge!) during the relay?

Most of the ASSRA medals are the little Blackington ones on a pin ribbon, but there are a few of the big 3" red enameled ones as well. All the Coors and NMLRA medals hang around your neck on a ribbon. What are winners at Beeson's getting these days?

There is a picture in an old Rifleman- around 1935 if I remember correctly, of the well known pistol shooter Askins, wearing all the medals he had won... it made him look ridiculous, like Idi Amin or some other tinhorn dictator showing off.

some pics I've seen of the c.1890 medal winners had'em made into chains that looped around'em several times. some put'em onto vests and jackets--looked like armored cuirasses.  And they were all probably solid gold and silver.

regarding the "moving target"  I think tying one ankle to a stake with a 6 or 8 foot leash might be reasonable, don't you?
