While searching thru midways on-line catolog i came upon lymans section on scales, at the end of their discriptions was posted a warning not to use electronic scales under floriscent lighting with no explanation why, has anyone else seen this warning and know the reason why? Ken

Haven't run into that before, but I would give Lyman a call at their toll free number, 1-800-22lyman, to ask.

I understand the light emitted from fluorescent lights is heavier than light from incandescent lights, which will adversely affect the delicate balance of the scale and induce an offset error.  Roll Eyes

Actually the real reason is the electronic interference created by the ballast and electronics in fluorescent lights.  It can affect the scale electronics if the scale is too close to the light source.  This is similar to the static affect flourescent lights can cause in radios. This applies to any electronic scale, not only Lyman’s.  Overhead lights in the ceiling shouldn’t pose a problem since they are usually at least 3 to 4 ft away.
