Knowing the shop foreman and the head gunsmith at Ballard, I'd have to say they are as good....at least as the Cody made.
If you'd buy one and not be happy with it, I'd be happy to accept it as a gift from you.

JB I have seen several of their demo pieces that have gone to the NRA meeting, ASSRA matches, etc, and I find them to be just as good as ever. It would appear that the new owner is trying to appeal to the "Carriage Trade" who will demand nothing but the best of workmanship (and be willing to pay for it.) I think you will find their work up to the highest standards.

Ballards may be weaker,

I took delivery of a brand new Ballard No. 8, Union Hill about three months ago. This particular rifle was started at the Cody shop (barreled action with rough-fit stocks) then completed in the Onsted shop. As the owner of two other Cody produced Ballard rifles, I can say this new rifle is their equal in fit and finish. I am quite pleased with all three of my Ballard Rifle Co. Ballards and except for the stunning perfection of the checkering by Earl Hines on this newest rifle, I would rate them equally on quality, fit and finish.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.
