John Hall Rifle

The March issue of the American Rifleman has an article about John Hall and his breach loading flint lock. Does anyone know where I might find more information? This could be an interesting project. I don't know how to search patents

I have a good friend who collects flintlocks and has a couple Halls in his collection. He's gathered enormous amounts of info on them, and I will be seeing him tonight at our Historical Arms Colletor's meeting. If you're interested I'll get his email info to you?

The 1997 Gun Digest has a long article on the Hall Breech-loading Rifle. There is a fellow on e-bay selling a bunch of them for $3.99, with free shipping. I don't know if he has any left, through.

Get the book "MAINE MADE GUNS AND THEIR MAKERS" by Dwight B Demeritt. John Hall was born in Portland Maine. My copy was printed in 1973 , he has since printed a new edition. Hall made sporting rifles before going to work for the government at Harpers Ferry

I know  a guy who has done extension restoration on these things and often has one for sale. He has helped with molds for accurate parts for them as well.

I can PM you his info if you would like. He may be able to help out. If you ever go to the N-SSA nationals, he has a booth there. He also sets up at the Timonium/Baltimore antique gun show.

There's a book called "Hall's Breechloaders" by R. T. Huntington, George Shumway, publisher, 1972.  Probably out of print but check Abe, Amazon, etc., for a used copy.

There is some guy at the Santa Barbara Antique Arms Show who has at least a dozen Hall rifles he exhibits from time to time.  Quite a collection.
