What is the differnce between a Cadet and a BSA

i know that a regural BSA reciever s big, then the cadet. At the gun show I look at a BSA, had light surface rust all over, I can not believe that you wouldn't take the time, to scrub it a little 0000 and Breek free, and cleaned it up! the wood needed some attention, but the sites were AWESOME and he told me the sights were worth more than the gun! It was $500.00 of course I don't have that right now, and if i was to ever do one I would want to do things differnt!
Maybe Harry or someone will jump in and tell me the differnce??
Thanks for reading

BSA, Birmingham Small Arms, made both large martini's for the military and small frame martini's for military trainers and small bore hunting and target arms. The BSA Model 4 was a rifle made for military training for the Austrailian military and "cadet" training schools. It was most often made in .310 Cadet/.310 Greener centerfire cartridge. So, people commonly call that action a cadet action vs the larger which was often called a Martini Henry action. If the gun had the BSA #8 folding tang sight on it, it would go for more money than just the barrel mounted rear sight. Anyway, if it had a good bore, was mechanically sound and a caliber that interested you, $500 USD was a reasonable deal.

The sights were not folding, but they were made very, very well, I didn't look at the make of the sights. It did say BSA and wth a little cleaning, it would of had 90% at least on the blueing, the wood was just plain and kind of blocky, it was 22LR. And if I would of had the extra cash, I would of bought it! It had been taken good care of untill someone forgot to oil it and it just had light rust on it!I wish now, I would of takin some trading stock with me, and tried to trade for it.One more thing the back sight had a large eye cup and the adjustments where very complex.
Thanks for the Explaing, so there is no real diff. between a BSA and a Cadet action?
Thanks ACE

A Cadet is a small size action no matter who made it.
The Cadet size action was most likely first made by Francotte with the trigger and block as a group. In England BSA and Greener made most of the cadet actions(some of them were made in Belgium and finished in England).

Ace maybe what you were looking at was a bsa model 12 or 12/15. They had provisions for a rear of the receiver mounted all steel target sight and could be set up with about 4 or so apertures. The apertures had a little wheel
on the sight that allowed you to change the size of the aperture you looked through. They are basically alike in size except fro the receiver wall thickness. The 12 and 12/15 walls were thicker and a heavier barrel could be used. Mostly in 22rf caliber. Hope you had fun. Frank
