The most accurate 22 that I have ever had is a BSA Martini Mark III. I still have it and if I do my part it will make one hole at 50 yards and less than a 1/2 at one hundred.

Double D is correct, at least on the first part!   Grin

Seriously, a very versatile action, easy to take down for cleaning, normally a good trigger on them, and if you get one with a good barrel, very accurate!  The only downside is that if you do mount a scope, it can be a little difficult to load/unload.  Of the earlier versions, the 12/15 with a pistol grip and heavy 29" barrel can easily be re-worked into a Schuetzen rifle with stock work and a new buttplate.  PM me and I can send some photos of one I did.

I have BSA Martinis in .310 (one Cadet and one no6 Rook) and a .300 Sherwood. All three are very accurate indeed, but my .22 is a Greener Miniature Club takedown. Over the last 10 years or so, I have lost count of the 50m standing comps that this rifle has won. It is usually the oldest rifle in the competition.

The Mark II International,(and the Mark III and IV, I believe, are the same basic action) is as good any anything ever made. They probably have the best trigger, and the best part is that they are legal for Schuetzenfest competition. My Mark II is probably the most accurate rifle I own, and I have two Rem 40X's and and  an Anschutz 54(which is a close second). The BSA's were available for about $500 until recently, and maybe still are, but I have not been in the market lately. They have the fastest lock time of any action, and the factory criteria for acceptable accuracy was 1" at 100 yds. Most have been well cared for. As always, ymmv. Joe S

I have a MKll with original BSA sights. When shooting with a Unertl 20X it was a one hole shooter all day long out to 50yds. Don't recall shooting at 100yds.
Paid $400.00 for it in 2004. They are available in that price range (adjusted up a little) if you Google search.

As far as .22LR BSA martini's go, you have two groups. The ones like Mr Boulton's are often called small frame martini's while the ones like Mr Robertson's are the International Match series. Depending on your needs, either can be used but one may be better than the other. For dedicated small bore shooting, the International Match rifles are more desireable due to the adjustable triggers and better sights (I did not say superior sights as sights for both types are very good, only the International Match sights are a bit better IMHO). The small frame guns make excellent all round guns from informal shoots to hunting arms. I have a couple of articles written in the Journal describing these guns. Check with the Archivist for copies of them. Dollar wise, any of the BSA martini's have been going up due to the fact they have not been manufactured since the 1980's for the International Match rifles and the mid to late 1950's for the small frame guns. However, good deals are still out there. Check with John Appleton in Front Royal VA or MT Guns. Those are the two big dealers. Good luck and if you have questions, feel free to PM or Email me.

Make sure you try out different brands of 22 match ammunition if and when you get your martini. Did this with my 12/15. Rem, win, cci green tag, and russian brass cased junior. Shot one full box at each target. If 50 rounds don't give you a good idea of how well they perform, try another brand. Sometimes they can be finiky about what they like. Unfortunately russian junior is no longer imported. So the 4 bricks are used spareingly. Frank

And mine likes the Wolff target type.  Won't shoot with the high priced stuff!   Grin

Thr Mk1 and Mk2 BSA Internationals are similar but the Mk 2 has two screws for adjusting the trigger in front of the trigger guard.
The Mk 3 if I remember right as I haven't seen one for over forty years had I think a free floating barrel. The fore wood was hung on a steel hanger but that was rather heavy so a awitch was made to a alumunium hanger. I cannot remember if the action is the same as a Mk 4 which is longer than the Mk's 1 & 2. also the barrel is held in place by two set screws. Everything else though is the same.
Great trigger.
Which ever Mk you can get hold of, you will not go wrong with. I own a Mk 2 and a Mk 4.
My Mk 2 when I bought it had a heavy cut down barrel with a rusty bore so I had a .17 Walther sleeve put in and it now shoots a .17 Mach 2

Looking over the equipment summary from a past recent rimfire only shoot at EG, the BSA martini International Match rifles were #1 in quantity on the shooting line.

I have a MKII with a 15x Lyman SuperTarget Spot. It shots great, with a pretty trigger, and likes the cheaper target ammo the best, lucky me. I love shooting prone matches with it, you never have to take it out of your shoulder, because it's so easy to load without having to look where you place the bullet. You just have to watch that your empties don't hit the shooter, on your right, in the head every shot.
