I was wondering if anyone knew the last year that anyone has chambered a rifle in 33 WCF. I was told 1935 and Marlin was the last. If anyone can help i would appreciate it.

It has been my understanding that the .33 WCF was a Winchester propriety caliber and was not chambered by any other manufacturer. There were Rifles made in this caliber by private or custom gunsmiths as I knew a few and have an 86 winchester that was salvaged from an obsolete caliber by rebarreling it in .33 and I used it heavily as a Deer rifle for many years. I beleive the Caliber was discontinued by Winchester on the introduction of the .348 Winchester shortly before the advent of WW2. The .348 was developed as an improvement of the .33 with quite a bit more horsepower. Brass can be made from
45-70 quite easily. I usually run the new brass thru the seating die first to rough size and then thru a .33 full length die and then trim to length.
Be carefull about excessive lubricant on the cases as too much will create a pressure dent fold and spoil the shell. I used 3031 and 4064 powders with fine shooting results. I used 200 grain soft point bullets from a now defunct company "Connecticut Cartridge Co." Be carefull about selecting today's crop of .338 diameter bullets designed for the modern .338 magnum calibers as they are so ruggedly made they will not expand properly at the velocity's the .33 is capable of. HTH. Regards, FITZ

I'm pretty sure Marlin chambered it in their 1895 early on. I would have guessed Winchester was the last maker chambering for it, and I recall reading they dropped it a year or two after the .348 was introducted.

Rafter, I have not tried lead in my .33WCf but did buy a mold. Lyman offerd two molds that basicly reproduced the factory jacketed bullet.
338320 a Gas check bullet billed as a high velocity bullet for the .33. And a Plain base 338301 a bullet that looks somewhat like a Hudson style. I have one of them but cannot remember right now which. It was a 200 grain bullet. I also believe that the factory Jacketed loads were all 200 grs. Now that we have had this conversation it strikes me that I have been looking for a .33 cal mold for a Schoyen False Muzzle
rifle I want to get going. DUH! Now i will have to dig it out and cast some. Regards, FITZ.

At one time, Hornady made jacketed bullets for the 33. In my 2 or 3 year old Midway catalog, they are the flat nose 200 grain bullets.
