Ace,

Here a mine in all their various stages of finish. I just picked up the High Wall yesterday. The top Stevens Walnut Hill is the only one that I am not going to touch other than finding a couple more globe fronts.

MIke,
you have a very nice collection of rifles, they all all AWESOME and very nice!!The Hi Wall you got yesterday, had it already been a rifle? Now, that I have got a interse in these types of rifles, I cannot go to gun shows and look for parts!
I thank you so much for sharing you collection with me! If you ever get time I would like to see the last rifle from the reciever back in a closer up pic'c if possible! but it is okay if tha is not possible!
Thank you for taking the time to share with me.

Ace,

The top three rifless are stevens 44 1/2s in the #49 and two #47 versions.

The high wall is at the bottom left in pieces. I bought it as a complete rifle, but is is a combination of a high wall winder musket, a coil spring rimfire block and hammer and DST lower tang, with a flat spring spur lever and small swiss plate. The forend is for a 3 1/2 weight barrel. My plans are to restore it to a Special Single Shot model using flat spring parts and the original forend.

So if anybody wants to trade flat spring parts for my coil spring parts let me know.

Mike, Do you think that your coil spring will work in my new c. sharps coil spring action? If they would and you don't have any luck trading them, i might be interested in buying them!
Thanks

Mike,

I know it is possible to build a coil spring action in a flat spring receiver shell, but how are you planning on getting the flat mainspring through the face of your coil spring receiver?  Wouldn't you be better off just changing the lever to a coil spring and going with what you have?  The flat spring fore end of course won't care whether there is a flat spring in it or not, and you already have plans for the barrel anyway, I guess, so the only other challenge would be finding an original Special Sporter stock, or making one that matches the original fore end sufficiently well.

Ace, I know how you feel. I used to live in new york and would see schutzen rifles usually at just about every show. Even met Gary Quinlan at one. Now he has some really beautiful schutzens!!. Unfortunately here in louisiana where I now live I have not seen even one down here. Saw exactly one stevens for sale but since the dealer did not have the dies, bullets, and ammo
that was supposed to go with it, and the fact that it was a 3 hour drive each way I passed. If it wasn't for the generousity of many folks in sharing pictures of their toys I'd almost be in the same fix as you. Frank

Ace,
Don't want to hijack your thread an more.

Greenfrog,
The receiver is a flatspring model, I am assuming it is a winder because it is stamped with a "17" on the bottom, just in front of the lever pin. Campbell references this stamping on many winders he has seen. The coilspring parts are the breechblock and the hammer with half-cock removed. I am also guessing the DST and tang are from a coild spring due to the SN of 108xxx.

I'll start another thread in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum.

Mike, You are not bothering me, don't worry about the post, post all you want, all I can do is dream. You guys have the most AWESOME rifles I have ever seen!! But that is what I hunted with for 20 years were Ruger #1. At one time I had several connections in germany, that might of gave me a chance to of pic up a Aytd Action, but not now  Cry
The only thing about dreaming is, it doesn't cost as much. I found a beautifull Aytd Rifle last night at a bargin compaired to what I have seen most of the people asking for them! But it doesn't matter how cheap they are, if you don't have the cash, you just keep a dreaming!
Later, and again I thank all of you for sharing with me. I wonder if there is any place on the net, that someone might sell used stocks like that?
