Unusual High Wall Action

There is an very unusual barreled action (just the stripped action and barrel, with no breach block, hammer or lower tang) up for auction on gunbroker.  It has an unusual (huge) collar on the front of the action and multiple dovetails on the bottom of barrel under the forearm location.  Has anyone seen such a variant before?  It looks original, or at least the modifications appear vintage.  Just wondering...

I'd really want to see that one in person before risking more than chump change on it.

I'd like to see photo 5 really clearly, and close up, to see if there is a visible filet of silver solder or braze along that edge.

It looks to me like someone took the forward flares off the action, then added that to make up for the missing material afterwards.

Pure supposition on my part.

Interesting!

Cheers

No takedown that I've ever seen, before.  I wonder what gunschmitt got his hands on that one??  Looks like a large portion of the front of the receiver was milled away and then that piece added.  May even have some gas welding done on it.  If you look at the bottom view, you can see how much was milled off.  The description by the seller sure sounds good though!!  Wink  Bob

Trev, you and I see it pretty much the same way.  I was typing while you were posting.  Bob

The number of dove tails in front of the receiver, under the barrel, have me perplexed too.  I wonder if it was some type of test fixture in a former life.

The last image shows the receiver shell started out as a flat-spring action.  Take-down flat-springs are pretty thin on the ground. (I've only seen a picture of one experimental model.)  My vote goes with Thop's suggestion... it looks like a test fixture of some type.  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!  Wink
