Modern Shooting Medals that don't suck or Co$T?

Been looking around for a while for shooting medals to use as prizes for some local matches...
Most of the medals I've found are cheap crap. Some are aluminum or some other stamped out (zinc based?) junk.

Are there any places that make modern shooting medals that are decent, in the $20-$40 range?

Over that, and I think I could take an original (early 20th century) medal, and have a jeweler or other metal caster make me a silicone mold and run 20-30 wax masters and cast them in silver!  (I've thought about this too... but the initial investment stops me, even though the per-each cost gets reasonable...).

If anyone still makes a decent shoting medal, I'd appreciate a steer in that direction!

Check with the International Single Shot Association and the San Diego
Schutzenguilde. They both award tasteful medals. I believe the NRA still gives out tacky walnut boards festooned with gilded pot metal, the sort of thing usually handed out at bowling alleys.

ssdave, you may want to present this idea to the ISSA, WSU, ASSRA. I would be great to have hand made silver medals. I would think our club may be interested. If you had a example it would help sell it.

Dave,

Our club, the New Braunfels Schuetzen Verein, located in Texas, is also in need of small quantities of medals.

Could you send me your email address and I will send pictures of vintage medals I have to model the new ones after.

Our club celebrates its 160th year July 4th, 2009 and I would to have something great for that.

Sorry about the delayed reply.. I had some Internet Issues, and some time management issues...

I've toyed for years with the idea of making a mold for waxes from an original medal or two.... but then total up the prices, and the fact that all I know about the process is from books, and no hands-on experience... and back off the idea.

I had the opportuntity (by pure chance) today to see a collection of shooting medals of a local gun club member. This gentleman and I had discussed this same idea months ago, but we both got sideracked.  We were both at the range today for a match, and he brought his collection.

As others have mentioned; YES, there is definitely a market!
I'd buy 10 nice bronze or silver medals for Schützen right now... Only reason I wouldn't go with 20 is I can't afford it right now.

I may be emailing you to discuss what you think about some ideas...

Others; Thanks for the tips and contacts! I will follow them up as I have time!
I didn't expect such a response Smiley

High quality die cast medals were quoted to me at $600 per hundred, 100 medals minumum, and that was with donated art work and didn't include ribbon or ribbon attachment.

The following is a quote I have for medals with our own design.
2 ¼” Die struck soft enamel pin with 2 cut out loops at bottom and military clutch back. 2 colors of enamel included.
100 at $5.50
250 at $4.40

This is to allow for event bars to hang on the bottom.    We are investigating this for the ASSRA.  Our problem is how many different bars are needed for all of the matches and places.
Cheers,
Laurie

Laurie, does that include the cost of the die and art work?

There should be an INFINITE supply of second-hand bowling trophies that could be reworked and be gotten for NOTHING.
