I have been told that their new replica will have parts that are interchangeable with the original. Has anybody else heard this?

American Gun Company, (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Associated with McGowen Barrels.  I first used one of their barrels when I was in Gunsmithing school over thirty years ago.

Interesting,  McGowan is/was located in on near St. Ann IL east of Kankakee near the Indiana line. Harry made barrels for many years starting with machines he got from the WW II Armory there in IL.  HE made really really accurate barrels and did very high quality general riflesmithing.  I heard some time back that his son (s?) had taken the business in hand. it is, or at least was until fairly recently, advertised in RIFLE magazine My friends and I had several guns built or remodeled by Harry back in the days when you could keep your rifles and handguns in a college dorm room on a midwset campus without anyone raising an eyebrow.  He was the nearest quality gunsmith we knew about--about an hour or two drive away.  It was always a joy to go over and spend a little time with him.

the McGowin/AmericangunLLC link is for Kallispel MT,  Its a different spelling and a significanlty different location  It'd be interesting to know how they are affiliated with Harry's old outfit and even more about their products.  not much info on their website

I misspelled McGowen and yes this is the same company with new owners. They have had it for a few years I believe. They appear to be doing things right and are not taking money until they are ready to deliver. I have nothing to do with this company, but hope if they build a quality product that is affordable I can buy one.  I have some new 22-3000 Herters brass and would like to build a R2 Lovall on a HiWall.

Thanks for the update Steve,  I'm chagrinned to hear about the move though.  the old location was only an hour or two from my home.  and for me Kalispell might as well be in Siberia.    I'm glad to hear it is still an ongoing business and that they will keep the tradition and quality up there---if they do it the way Harry would have, the new action will be strictly first class.

guess we lost McGowen but gained Ballard here in the midwest

I've just emailed them about a projected delivery date...
But I will completely understand if they dodge that question Smiley

If they're cost competitive with C. Sharps, I'd be inclinded to order one...

I spoke to Jon Frost yesterday he told me that the prototype is done and they are machineing parts now. This is the first run so they are going slow to make sure that everything is right on all the parts. He told me that all their parts will interchange with origional Winchester. They are shooting to be ready around the first of next year. With the price of an action in the $800 range. They are planning to produce single, single-set, and double set triggers.

Oh!   I would like to offer my most humble appology.   Roll Eyes

Hey,  You should see what Ruger is including as a trigger lock with their new 10/22's.  It is almost guaranteed to scrach every thing that comes near it.
