New to Schuetzen.  What should I expect?

Trying to assess how I am doing in my load/technique development.  I don't have any of the local historical match scores available (where I had only been shooting the Black Powder relays)
I am shooting a 32-40 Ballard, with a 1/16 twist barrel that originally came off a High-Wall. breach seating with a plugged case.
I look at the match scores listed on this site, but some of the matches do not list range, target  etc.
On a relatively calm day, what sort of 200 yd bench score should I expect on the #5 target?  Of course I expect to shoot all 250s Smiley

Thanks

Jack

Welcome to the insanity.

Almost any combination is competitive at some level, depending on wether you shoot bench or offhand. The top of this game (not me) shoot groups that are 1 MOA or better on a regular basis. Score wise that is about 240 and above from the bench. Offhand wise, a score of 200 or above will get you near the top. Most ASSRA centerfire events are at 200yds. For those who do not have access to a 200yd range we have 100yd scaled targets.

Good shooting!

bpjack;
         Mi-shooter has given you good info--with your rifle you should be able to shoot in the 24 ring on the German ring target  at 200 yards.   leadball

bpjack, you describe your rifle as having a barrel that came off a Hiwall. Are you sure? There were many Ballards that were rebarreled by Winchester in the special or custom order shop. Most that I have seen were stamped special by Winchester repeating Arms Co. or some variation of that. Now these were built by the best men in the factory. The barrels were either completely manufactured by them or specially selected. All I have seen were excellent shooters. In fact the reason I don't own one is that none were ever for sale when I saw them. To quote a statement from somewhere else here " Good Shooters Do not sell Their Tackdrivers" Good luck with yours, Regards FITZ. Smiley

I based the re-barreling on a few factors.  There is an unused dovetail where the flat spring mount would be.  The forend matches HW profiles , has the ebony insert, and has a light piece of wood morticed into the channel where the flat spring would have sat.  Plus, it looks like at one time someone put the barrel in a not too well protected vise.  The front sight dovetail is also not perfectly level.  That said, it does seem to shoot well.  It may never drive tacks, but it might handle roofing nails Wink
