Thanks Dick,

Yes indeed, SHOOTING IS A SPORT! Unfortunatly, decades of mindless liberal thuggary have taken their toll and we're no longer a nation of riflemen and riflewomen.

How right you are. Americans rather watch others run up and down fields or courts playing with inflated animal skins!  And to suggest that
one should learn to shoot standing on their very own legs is enough to cause stares. Precision shooting has given way to Cowboy Action Shooting and pistol events catering to SWAT team wannabees.  A fellow was bench shooting an inline "muzzleloader" replete with scope sight this morning at the range. Almost as bad as being caught in bed with a female corpse or a live boy.

Hey, but you have to admit...

Walking up to a group of hunters, trying to zero their 7.3mm Super-Ultra-Magnum at a 18" gong at 200 yards, (which they have failed to hit for more than 40 rounds...), and making it "ding" 7 out of 10 shots with a .22 pistol is pretty darn satisfying..
You don't even have to SAY anything.

(I went back to the 25 yard range after that, and only found out later from the duty rangemaster that those two guys got all ticked off, threw their stuff in their car and left...  Hey, I just wanted to ding the gong; but it sure gives me grins today!)

Interesting about Emmons.. I'll have to read more about that.
Four years ago, he blew his final shot cross-firing... this time getting over-friendly with the trigger too soon on his last shot? Damn... that boy can't seem to handle that "last shot of the olympics" stress... Not that I blame him!

Get right down to it at the highest level often a single shot makes the difference. In Silhouette championships you shoot the entire match just to get into the shoot off

I am surprised we did as good as we did considering the support available to some country's shooters compared to ours.

Also note the Koreans finished way down even with Beta Blockers.  Wonder what the ASSRA rule book says about substances

There's enough old (and younger) Pharts on enough meds that the ones that hurt are canceled out by the ones that help!  Most of the time, anyhoo...   Grin  Roll Eyes

Paul F, enjoyed reading about the gong episode. Had a similar one here last spring. A guy was shooting some upscale powerhouse bolt gun at 200 yards. I was able to post a target next to his to sight my .22 Ballard at that range for a silhoutte shoot. I was shooting iron sights. Conditions were near perfect. I got on paper and fired a five shot group with Lapua M and another group with Wolf. I was astounded that one group measured 1 13/16", the other 2 1/4". Prior to retrieving my target he examined my battered rifle, (all my rifles are battered). When he saw my target he packed his equipment. (His best group with scope was about 3")  Have not seen him since. Flukey, yes, but fun!

I think thats happened to all of us.  I had some spare time and took my 32/40 Schuetzen to the public range this spring.  Gong hung at 200 yards. I guess it was about the size of ASSRA's 15 ring. could have been larger

Worked on  my position by breech seating then mounting the rifle eyes closed and breaking the shot as soon as I opened.  Couple of service rifle guys were shooting paper targets next to the gong offhand.

One was offended to use a tame word, pretty good, and asked when I was going to miss one, told him it was hard to miss ,the gong was so big.  Guy did not like it at all.  Started to suggest a bet but that may have been pushing my luck.
