Looking at the AMT soule for a Rem RB

Dave Higginbotham is building me a target RB and I've been looking around at various soule sights to mount.

One I'm looking at is this:

Just looking for opinions.

Not sure if I can mount a Hadley cup on that in place of the standard peep sight.

That sight setup was used by Browning on their BPCR rifles.  IIRC, someone makes a Hadley type eyepiece for them.  You might want to check with AMT for screw hole spacing and thread size, to make sure it will work on your new toy.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

If your Roller is going to have factory spacing of 1.9", then I think that sight wont work as-is. May need to have a new hole put in at the proper spacing.
I've never used a windage adjustable front with a Soule rear. I usually stick with fixed front sights myself. (personal preference)

CC,

If you do decide on the AMT sight, Hadley-style cups that fit are available from Montana Vintage Arms (MVA) or Lee Shaver.  Just be sure to get one with 10x32 threads to match the sight elevator hole threads.

gents,
while the amt or browning sights are good every set i have ever seen on any rifle the rear eye piece is never focused properly and they are a real pain to get fixed. over years of shooting these guns and starting with a roller and a dixie gun works site save yourself time money and aggravation. go buy a baldwin,or an mva. they make excellent sites, andthe bases are done properly.
and talking about dangerous dave, may have to pay him a visit the next time i am in houston.

As Dave mentioned, I do like the Parts Unknown Soule Borchardt style Soule sight, especially for a silhouette rifle.

Howsomever, have a look at the Distant Thunder sights. I have been using his front sight for years and have just received a tang sight for the new Wesson and am quite pleased with it.

You can't beat MVA;s

Good way to go with a windage front sight is zero match day. Use the rear first then crank the approprate windage onto the front . Then run the rear to zero. Double check all is right for the major conditon.

I like to work from  zero on the rear as the day progreses.  Keeps me from getting lost when changes or switchbacks develop.

Irish,

You said, "while the amt or browning sights are good every set i have ever seen on any rifle the rear eye piece is never focused properly and they are a real pain to get fixed."

Could you expand on your comments, especially the "never focused properly" comment.  How do you change the focus of an aperture eyecup?  It's not a scope.
