"Must Do/See" stuff in S. Montana, N. Wyo , & ND?

In a coupl weeks, I'm driving from Northern California to Minot ND for a family reunion.

Thought I'd try to stop at gun and single shot related things along the way, wherever possible...

I've already got Big Timber Montana and Shiloh Sharps on my list of stops..
And the Cody Firearms Museum in Cody, Wy.
Trying to figure out a reasonable route that takes me by Buffalo Arms on the way back.. but that's getting pretty far north.

Any other stores, sites, or the like that are worth visiting?

Any good used gun shops in Minot, ND where I can escape family for a while?

Suggestions appreciated!

Paul, Don't forget the Custer battlefield. Another stop is Miles City, where they have the Rangerider Museum and Western Powder up on the hill . You can buy black powder from them and not have to pay shipping or hazmat! Forget Buffalo arms though. I have been there and its just a tin building(warehouse) and since they are a mailorder house, they don't really have much to see. I can give you the names of some of the great place to eat in Bozeman, just call me. Mori

Get a tour of C. Sharps also while in Big Timber. Then, you do not want to pass up Theodore Roosevelt N.P. in North Dakota near Medora. The north unit is a wonderfully scenic area. Then you can head north and take in Fort Union, then head east  to Minot. You won't be disappointed.

There's also a dandy little dinosaur museum right beside the interstate, just on the ND side of the ND/Montana state line...I forget the name of the town, but very near the Roosevelt Park.  (not exactly single-shot related, but neat nonetheless...especially if you're traveling with kids.)

You can also swing down and visit Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse monument in SD...some beautiful country around the Black Hills.

Is the dinasour museum town you are thinking of Dickenson, North Dakota? The Dakota Badlands are just beautiful if you have never been there.

Thanks to all for the tips!

I've been through the Badlands, and seen Mt Rushmore... both great, and both worth visiting again if I don't dawdle too much in Cody or Big Timber (or spend too much money).

Western Powder and the Custer Battlefield are also on my "if there's time" list.

I hope Shiloh and C. Sharps are nice to "drop in" visitors Smiley

Paul,

Last time we stopped in Big Timber, both Sharps shops gladly gave my wife and I a tour.

If you're going to be in or near Bismarck, drop by "Gun City", they have lots of used guns.

Have a good, safe trip.

sounds like a grand tour to me/    when in Cody make time foe the museum and not just the guns, other parts are just as good. the wife may like them too.  eat at the Irma Hotel for sure.  there is a tourist trap in cody that sells all kind of shirts, hats etc but it may be the best kept secret there. in the back room they have a diorama laid out of the old west which we found to be absolutely great. lots of detail.
go to custer state park and camp by the river if possible

that was the best trip i was ever on    have fun
