Well there is the real Fraser (Scotland) and there are also some Italian made Fraser Highlander kits (and rifles?) for a small falling block in .22RF or .22 Hornet.  Which are you asking about?

I used to have a Fraser in .22 Hornet with 3 leaf express style sights. Nice little rifle and it would shoot one hole at 25 yards with factory ammo the one time I took it to the range. I regret selling that little rifle, it is still at the shop I sold it to but they want something like $600 or $700 for it. Anyone know what they go for these days, is it worth buying it back?

From the posts here, and posts elsewhere, the main issue with these seems to be with the firing geometry, causing the pin to stick forward and drag across the base of the cartridge, often causing jamming or breakage of the pin's tip.
There is some mention of the trigger being less than optimal, as well.

To the positive, they build into a very handy walking around rifle.

I think I still want one, but I think I will end up keeping an eye out for one that has all the bad things going for it, in the hopes of getting a cheap (ish) project.

Cheers

The Italian made Fraser Highlander kits and rifles have quite a history, and much of it not so favorable.  I think Mr. Steele has told us that they were originally brought in by a company associated with dealer Thad Scott.  He then sold them to an outfit in Missouri called Cape Outfitters.  At one time Cape Outfitters threatened legal action against Rifle Magazine, Frank de Haas, and the ASSRA over very unfavorable reviews of the rifle and/or kits.  As Trev mentioned the firing pin and block machining was the primary problem, but accuracy was also mentioned with some shots with factory ammunition arriving at the target sideways.  References you might want to look at look at:

The book A Potpourri of Single Shot Rifles and Actions by Frank de Haas

The July-August 1989 issue of Rifle magazine

The ASSRA Journal:
Vol. 46, #5
Vol. 44, #8
Vol. 43, #1 & #2

Unless you are prepared & qualified to reengineer and/or rework the thing, I would stay away.

I owned one of those Italian models of the Fraser, the estate I purchased it from was my old boss who would have died all over again to find out he had been had by a counterfit gun. He paid a large sum thinking it was a real Fraiser, we found out later a fake Italian, broken firing in, bad machine work, not up to any good English rifle swtandards at all.
In fact it would not have made a tent stake..

CORRECTION:  His name is spelled  FRAISER  WITH AN "S" NOT A Z
The real Dan'l Frazier of Scotland built highly accurate rifles. He should have - he was an award winning marksman who would not settle for second best. Anyone lucky enough to own an original Frazier will appreciate the quality he built into his rifles.

SORRY, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MOVE A LINK TO HERE BUT MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE CAN.

Pictured is a beautiful restoration he did of a side lever Frasier

Actually, the name is spelled FRASER.  Daniel Fraser.

All the original Fraser firearms I have seen are superbly made. All the alleged repros I am aware of are somewhat less so.
