And add a top tang at a suitable angle and drilled & tapped for either a Winchester, Sharps or Ballard tang sight.

Smiley Smiley

good morning gents.
having given my 10 cents worth, and having woken up too early this am.
thinking on  the bpcs rules it does have an exposed hammer therefore it is legal. hell it is even traditional rifle legal in the assra! has the tangs etc.
when i can afford it, i do beleive I am going to have to own a wickliffe. who really cares what the rules say I can still chamber the thing for what ever I want and shoot it where and when ever i want, and still have a great day at the range with a different single shot rifle.
I have 3 fbw mod j recievers,  highwalls low walls I even have a couple of cma highwalls not to mention ballards, and even an ar 15.
the more I own the better I like it.

HI, ALL, I'm back from the hospital and some travels so i'll try to answer your questions.

a top tang- HAS BEEN  AVAILABLE  FOR SEVERAL MONTHS-  as an option. we need to correct the angle and the contour.

the cost of making new moulds for the castings is prohibitive.

by using the existing tooling we are trying to offer an AFFORDABLE  Custom Rifle BUILT TO YOUR SPECS.

RE; making BORCHARDTS - no one would pay what it would cost to tool up to make them.   and there is no REAL  demand for them....only talk. people wishing for something that doesn't exist.

if there were a real demand for it someone would buy the casting kits, make the jigs & tooling to quickly and accurately machine them and offer them for sale.   doing that is a NO BRAINER. So why haven't bigger minds than mine thought of it..... and more importantly done it ?

re: drilling & tapping top tang    we are leaving them blank until we know what you want. we don't want to commit the rifle to any particular brand of sight.

the same for BARRELS  you name the make and details of the barrel you want and we'll get it. We don't want to try to sell you a barrel you don't want.

Thanks for the drawings with suggestions. We are making a prototype with similar revisions to the bottom front.  we cannot change the breechblock area - there would be no support for it if we cut off the back.  a new lever shape would be a big help for appearances thought this thing looks a lot like some of the originals.

We have received our first engraved model . i'll try to post some pictures later.

THANKS FOR YOUR POSITIVE COMMENTS  ! I MEAN IT.

Tom,

With regards to drilling the tang for sights.

By drilling the tang to match one of the standard spacings available, you are not tying anyone to any particular brand of sights. You would be giving them the information that says whether they would need to buy a new base, or if their current equipment would fit.

Do some looking and you will find that the bases are more or less standardized, and you are better off to pick one common size (like, for instance, matching the spacings for the Winchester High Wall) than you would be to be drilling each one at a different spacing.

Please lay off the all capitals, and the color highlights! Really irritating stuff! About the equal to jumping up, shouting and waving your arms, at a meeting.

Cheers

Hello Tom,
My name is Tom Kocis,I live in Streetsboro Ohio & am the developer of the Wickliffe Single shot rifle, with patent & manufacturing rights assigned to Triple S Development Co.

I have most of the drawings, heat treat specs. & machining sequences for the various components for these rifles.
If interested, contact me at tomnmar2@sbcglobal.net.
I hvve also patented the "chokematic", an automatic compensating shotgun choke, that we at Triple S Dev.Co. produced for around 8 years & have several of these units, should you care to look into this as another production item.

I know that you have seen my name mentioned in John Duncan's website( thoroughly without my knowledge or permission & he has since taken down his website)

Tom,

There are two companies producing replicas of the Sharps Borchardt Rifle in the USA.

1. The Borchardt Rifle Company in Silver City NM. The last price I saw for their barrelled actions was just under US $2,000.00

2. Lozito Associates in NY, also produce Borchardt actions with either the standard or a Zischang style DST. The unheat treated actions start at US$ 3.500.00. and go up from there.

What is needed is a reasonably priced copy of the Sharps Borchardt Action.

The only castings kit available is from Wes Stanley, and having seen photographs of the castings I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

If someone could produce a good Borchardt Action of modern steels and price it just under US$ 1,000.00 I think there would be a very good market for it.

Just my two bucks worth, it used to be two penny worth, until someone discovered inflation.

Harry

Harry ---- the last time Al Storie (Borchardt Co. owner) and I spoke, He was backordered 40 rifles AND, he has ceased running all ads until he can get caught up.  Al told me he would be interested in speaking to anyone interested in buying the co.   Ken

But how can he be backordered on 40 rifles if there's no demand? Shocked Wink
Not to derail this topic, but I totally agree with Harry! I'd love to find a finished Borchardt action under $1,000! Old or new production!

Hello Ken,

I live on the other side of the 'pond' to you ex-colonials. lol. But the 'Scuttlebutt' I have heard, is that Al Storie is/was, in need of a CNC milling machine operator to help him out. I also understand that Al, (bless his cotton socks) is nearing retirement, so I can understand him wanting to sell off his company. 'Green Frog' in the ASSRA Magazine gave a great write up on the Borchardt Rifle Co's product some time ago, he was so impressed with the rifle he kept it long after he had promised to return it. I don't blame him one little bit, for that. lol.

I remember when I got my original copy of Frank De Haas's book, Singler Shot Rifles and Actions,  way back in the 1970's. He thought there would be a market for the Borchardt Action at $50.00. Jeeze, how prices have changed in 35 years. lol.

Wow, Harry!  People really DO read my stuff from time to time.  Some of you guys even remember what I say!  Wink

You are absolutely right that it was a painful separation when I had to send that rifle back to its "rightful owner."  The great thing about being a gun writer (even in such a small way as I am) is that you get to play with such neat stuff.  The awful thing about being a gun writer is that you often have to pay for it or send it back!  "The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat..." as the old sports commercial used to say.  Cry

As far as Al's age and plans, I haven't spoken to him in quite a while, but I feel certain he would want the production to continue, even if his age forces him to slow down a bit.  He really seems to love that rifle, and it shows in the quality he puts in each one.  I hope somebody qualified will step up and assume production when the time comes.  Cool

Regards,
Froggie
