Mid America Stevens Rifles

Does anyone have any experience with the Mid America Stevens 44 1/2 rifles?
I was wondering how they compared to the CPA.

Is it the same size as the original or expanded to allow for 45/70 rim size.

The Mid America rifles and the origional Bresine rifles were copies of the 44 1/2 actions. The CPAs are similar to 44 1/2. They have a 1/16' thicker action and the block and fireing pin is different.

I've got one of his rifles about 10 years ago.

It was supposed to be a 2 barrel rig, .22lr & 32-40 with 2 blocks and extractors.  The sight base on the rimfire barrel were out of line, looked like they had been drilled on a drill press.  The 32-40 barrel had about 1/2" of throat bored out in front of the chamber.  After a year of trying to get him to make the rifle right as he promised, I sent the rig to someone else who set the barrel back and cut a new chamber.  I put a longer sight base on the .22 bbl and drilled another hole to cover up the misplaced sight base hole.

I wouldn't buy anything from him again unless I had it in my hand first and was completely satisfied before I handed him a dime.  I don't think his intentions are bad but ability to follow through and take care of business are way below par.

Over the years I've bought a few things from Fred Miller, particularly his Stevens Pope palm rests which are excellent, I've never seen one of his rifles, but Fred has always been streight up with me. Recently a young woman who I shoot with asked me where I got my palm rest, and so I called Fred and ordered one for her, it took about a month, but it's very well made, and she is very pleased with it.
