bpjack,
Here are 3 picts of my stevens scope. Most of the markings are quite heavy, but the number 480 mark is much lighter & must have been made separately. I believe these mounts are original.

Did anyone besides the Frog notice (and salivate over) the 103 tang sight?  I don't even own a Stevens currently, but that caught my eye right away.  Great find, BPJack, congratulations.   Smiley

Andy & Frog,
Thanks for your kind comments. It's a 44 1/2 - 47, Stevens Pope, 32-40. The serial number would suggest that it was probably made after Pope had left Stevens for California.

It has a relatively slow twist that works best with the 165gr bullet, heavier ones keyhole. I'm also fortunate to have another one, much the same, but with Ross right hand rifling, that will shoot heavier bullets.
Regards, Ron

Froggie FWIW I just sold a nice 103 for a Stevens on eBay, it brought $350. Win 103s bring $100 more.

I am not up on many of the old scopes but Winchester must have made A5s with clickless mounts as the A5 is on the legal list for NRA BPCRS. That venue requires mounts sans click adjustments. I assume the list of allowable scopes was researched. ???

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Winchester did make mounts that were both click, and non-click adjustable. They also made them with the wire spring tensioner, and a coil spring plunger type tensioner. I believe the total variety of Winchester scope mounts was at least 4 styles, and as many as 6 styles.

Before this topic I would have bet that there were no Winchester A5's with click mounts, learn something new everyday.  One early Lyman 5A in my collection with a serial number just over a thousand does not have clicks, all the later ones do.  Your Winchester scope with clicks, does it have the "Grasshopper" spring or plunger and what color are the numbers? Please post a picture.
