Will I be able to shoot for very long ?

I have always reloaded for pistols and my rifles but always wanted to try
my hand at the black powder cartridge game. I want to order a Urberti
High Wall in 45-70. Going to buy the brass some black powder
and invest in some casting equipment. Now I'am wondering if I should
make this investment at all ? There is talk of a total ban on lead bullets !
and you know if the Dems. get total control in Nov. watch for taxes
and all kinds of restrictions on reloading supplies. Just five years ago here in Western Pa you could by black powder anywhere now try to find it. Is this investment worth it ? Will any of us being shooting for very long ? Black powder is an explosive how long for a politician to run with that one. My real concern is the comming lead bans and the encoded
or numbered bullets that their pushing for.

What if, what if, what if? Better to do something than do nothing. I live in the Kommunist state of Kalifornia, shoot every week and buy BP here locally in LA. Make the effort and you can find the goods to shoot.

Go for it. The more of us who are active, the harder to eliminate the hobby. I fear the day that you will not be able to run your antique gasoline powered auto also.

Buy the rifle and shoot it. Then hold your local politicians feet to the fire. I don't care if they are running for dog catcher make them state their 2nd ammendment views. All these political hacks started somewhere. Gnats turn into lice.

Even if you are sure it will go away (I am not) it is better to do it for a while then to have never done it at all. Not to mention there are great people you will never get to meet if you don't get involved!

Irritate a liberal, buy a gun!   Cheesy

Those who surrender their guns will be at the mercy of those who do not.  Cry

Last edit @ 3:58 PM... I first wrote this before I was completely awake!  Shocked
Now I have to go work on a high-wall to clear my head.  Wink

Although I do not speak Southern fluently, I have extensive experience with it and thought I understood it well. This, however, does not compute. Smiley

Sure.... Go ahead and buy it for all the reasons everyones giving.

They might be able to get a ban on Lead someday but they've been talking about it for years.

There are a lot of BP shooters in Penn., and some on here, and I'm sure they can tell you where to get BP. If worse comes to worse you can always buy what you need thru wholesalers. Might be best anyway since it'll be cheaper, and if you get together with a few other people you can split the cost. Most of the guys around here do this.

We Brits see the USA as a place where everybody lives in fear of lawyers--put a foot wrong and you will be sued.
So---has any single court case ever been brought by any person claiming to have suffered brain damage as a result of lead in gasoline?
Was lead in gasoline an actual or an imaginary problem?
Do you realise that bezine, which is now used instead of lead to achieve the required octane number, is a proven carcinogen?
My father died of a particularly unpleasent form of cancer caused by exposure to benzine in WW2.

Meaning absolutely no disrespect to the Frog (after all, he admitted he was half-asleep), the actual quotation is slightly different. It was inspired by other such classics as "Yeah, IF is the biggest word in the world!" & "Yeah, if wishes were horses then beggars would ride!" and "If a frog had wings then he wouldn't bump his butt every time he hopped!"; these comments were of course designed to stifle the whiners in whatever group, you know, the ones who're always saying "If only.." when their plans go wrong.

This eventually morphed into a somewhat more obscure expression, thus: "Yeah, and if a frog had pockets then he wouldn't hafta be scared of snakes!" The unsuspecting whiner would frequently then ask about the pockets, whereupon the perpetrator would reply, "Well, if he had pockets then he could carry a gun to shoot 'em!"

This is all in the spirit of male camaraderie, you understand (G). The Rules say that you hafta point out, nay you hafta emphasize, loudly and repeatedly, any possible mistake or awkwardness committed by your best buddy. The usual practice is to say, "Yeah, and if a frog had pockets....." gradually tailing off into silence with the rest being unspoken but understood.

The understood part being, "Yeah, quitcher whining already you wussy, you sound like a gurl, just shuddup and get serious!" or words to that effect. You know, the Male Bonding thing (VBG), pointing out how use of the 'if only' excuse makes the whiner seem, at best, petty and unworldly (if not a totally unredeemable pervert, VBG).

The ultimate triumph is to have your best buddy so speechless with rage and frustration that the only response he can manage is to make a rude suggestion & flip you off; then you know you've won!
Regards, Joe

And THERE is a truly comprehensive dissertation on the last idiom of Southernisms.

Thanks Joe, I reckon I am ready to graduate now...

OK Joe, now we're both "in high cotton" which is the cleaned up version of "performing a bodily function in a field of cotton so high that it is unnecessary to wipe yourself after you finish."  How's that for obscure?   Shocked

Oh yeah, then there's the one about the blind date that was so ugly (drum roll, and rim shot, please) that she would make a steam locomotive take a dirt road!  I think somebody fixed me up with her homely sister once.  Roll Eyes

And then there's the one about... but you get the picture.  What we lack in money and material things, we more than make up in colorful speech.  "That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!"  Wink
