cleaning a bullet mold

This is a question for Jim Borton, but of course anyone can reply, I have a B&D mold that I have somehow contaminated. I don't know how it happened, it looks clean, however I must have spilled solvent or oil on it, 'cause it won't cast anything but prunes. What should I use to clean it?

Denatured Alcohol, Lacquer thinner, Ether, brake cleaner, hot water and dawn dish soap, most anything that will not leave a oily film.

As we speak,

I have the mold soaking in lacquer thinner, I'll leave it there until tomorrow.

I use a toothbrush.

Not MY toothbrush.

Hot soapy water, then dry it quickly.

The sprays listed above are also good.

Some lube on the outside to prevent rust.  I usely use a teflon grease with tungsten disulphide to lube the top of the mould and the bottom of the sprue plate to keep lead from adhearing.

Usually I use break cleaner you can use contact cleaner also but it's the same stuff just more expensive. The best stuff if you can still find it is teiclorehteline (it's been off the market for years). On really stuborn moulds scrub it out with Dawn and hot water with a tooth brush. then clean with break cleaner.
