Purchased a near mint mounted police carbine made 1878 in 577/450. Truely a classic firearm from a bygone era!  Smiley Smiley

OUCH!  That not a rifle I would like to shoot too much.

But a very very nice rifle otherwise!

B.A.W.  Is the picture reversed or is the hammer actually on the left side?  Beautiful rifle.  Terry

Typical for the AH military rifles, the hammer on the 'other' side, to facilitate loading - so no, the pic in not reversed.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

That's one you can take to the range and not worry about seeing a bunch more like it! Beautiful gun!

How is the trigger pull?  The trigger on my AH rifle is the nicest I have ever found on a side hammer.

I know you like Martinis, Gert, but AHs are special, even if they are military rifles.  They must have been very nice Martinis, with a pretty good cripple-stopper to boot.  OTOH, I'm still waiting for .450 Boxer-Henry cases from RMC.

Richard,

There was a BSA Military Mk II in quite nice condition with a VG - excellent bore, anf the other one was a Bonehill sporter in #2 Musket with an excellent bore.  The Snider was a Belgian carbine.
OTOH, the barrel on the AH was only so-so, so it wasn't really a shooter...   I was pretty happy with the trade.

B_A_W,  What firm is the maker of your AH?  1878 seems very late in the production run.

These are amazing rifles. To me they look a little like a Wesson, or Steve Earls new Wesson. I expect that I would have better luck looking for almost any other rifle out there than one of these. I like the gracefull lines. What does your carbine wiegh in at? How much do you think the action wieghs?
Thanks
Mike

I've had my Henry sitting side by side with an origional Wesson.
There is no way that one was made with out copying the other! There can't be 2 great minds create clones that close to each other.

Mine is a RH locked one

Mike, I think you will find that the Wesson is the AH copy...  Then again, Henry of course got his ispiration from the Sharps, but made it a much more graceful package.

Thanks Gert! I knew that someone "retro-engineered" someone elses work..

When mine was next to the Wesson it was the "Poor Cousin". That Wesson is a sweetie.
