Finally got some pictures of an original wiper. I jotted down the dimensions also. Thought it might come in handy for those of you looking for the almost impossible to find wiper.  Smiley Let me know if you need the numbers I can send a copy.

Great pictures Westerner.  I think they are they best pictures of an original ramrod I have seen.  Attached is a picture of a reproduction I got from Julia and Neil Gutterman.  He had it made by a machinist friend of his.  Looking at your pictures, I think he got it pretty close.

Hello Joe,

It doesn't look too difficult a piece to machine, is the head of the ramrod
integral with the rod or is it brazed or silversoldered in place? If the latter, it should be even easier to manufacture.

Harry,
I didnt see any sign of braze so assume it's threaded to the rod. That's how I plan to make mine.

It may be hard to tell in this picture but the fit is so close that it would lead you to believe it is one piece, although I would think that would not be the easiet way to make one.  I assume he machined the tulip and then attached it to the correct size drill rod.  There is no evisdence of threads or brazing.  I suspect it is a press fit or maybe secured with locktite.  The other end is threaded.  I was very pleased with it when I got it.

Cheers Joe,

Making such a rod in two pieces would be a lot easier than 'bumping up' the end of a length of steel by heating it in a forge or gas flame, than bouncing the hot end repeatedly off an anvil to get a larger diameter rod at the tip and then machining it down to size.

It's not visible in the photographs, is the nose of the head end concave or flat?

When you get time could you Email me the numbers please, I'll put them in my Borchardt Archive. Thanks in advance.
Regards,

Harry

I will get the dimensions to you for sure Harry. Busy right now getting ready for the match in Spokane Wa.  I'm wrigglen round here like a happy weinerdog. It's been a long dull winter and I cant wait to get out to tha match.  My son John is going to meet me there on his Ducati motorsicle. So not only do I get to attend the match, I get to see John and do some riding with him.  Lots to do to get everything together. I hope my old pickup can haul the load over. I'll have fresh batteries, propane tanks my motorsicle and all the things for two people to shoot the match. Once I get over the mountains I'll pick up my 26' trailer, then off to Spokane. Thats a lot of weight for an old Ford pu. Shes never failed me yet, ( knock on wood )  .

The face of the wiper is flat.
                                   Later Harry,   Joe.
