Husqvarna Roller

I picked up this Husqvarna rolling block today at our Ore. Arms Coll. show. It's built similar to a Gemmer Rolling Block, with full length stock, and wiping rod, etc.
It was some sort of 9.3 caliber, but the owner said he had just the rim recut to accept .38-55 ammo. He also said he didn't have to trim the brass, as it was a longer chamber, and he simply seated the bullets out farther.
Haven't done a chamber cast yet, but I slugged the bore, and it came out .376". Rifling looks great, bright, and deep grooves.
I looked at cartridges of the world, and deHaas, and it looks like the closest cartridge is a 9.3x57R. Does anyone have any experience with these Swede Rollers, and what calibers the Swedes offered in their sporting rifles that might be close to the .38-55? Were they chambered in the 9.3x57R?-Vall

That is a model 33, I have one in 9,3x57r/360 a cartridge not far off a 38-55. The bore should be closer to .366. If it is .376 it might be 9,5x47r. They came in several calibers. Too bad he re-cut the ream recess, maybe why it came on the market. I would be very interested to get a closer look at the wiping rod. Most are missing, does it look original? Also, would be interested in the rifle if it comes up for sale.

Thanks for that link to the site Fred! (had to remove the "---you" to make it work) It appears to be a 33A, a it has the pistol grip stock of the "A".

Tom,
It is not an original wiping rod. The seller said he made it, as it was missing. He used a wooden dowell and added brass tips to each end. He said he got tired of trimming rims on .38-55 and his gunsmith simply cut the chamber to use std. .38-55 brass rim size. It came on the market because he is building up a fund to buy a Stevens schuetzen rifle.

Thanks!-Vall

I followed the lead to the Husqvarna site with Vall's modification.  Fascinating, but would you use a .38-55 as a turkey gun?  Then I got side-tracked onto the Krag-Jorgensen target rifles.  That was it for the rest of the night.  They are not single shots, but I'd sure like one for my birthday.  Smiley
