Anybody check lead prices lately. Was loading up some 45 ACP rounds and ran out of Pre cast 200 gr SWC's . Don't use many and had remembered the price about 27 dollars box of 500. Found some at my local gun shop. One a few months old at 33 dollars and a big selection of just received boxes at 60 dollars for 500. Way I figure it that's 4 dollars per pound. Owner told me he is selling lead scrap from his indoor range for a dollar per pound.
Last pre mix 1/25 in ingots I bought was 1.25 per pound, wonder what it is now. Remington 2 1/2 primers were 28 dollars per 1000. Of course to drive to a Schuetzen match and shoot the Hudson, gas food and Lodging is still the biggest expense.

boats,
A $1.25 for 1/25 alloy is a steal now adays. Last fall it was going at $2.55/ lb. from the supplier that comes to EG.
I started piling up my own puer lead and tin. Tin varied from $9.00/lb to $5.00/lb. I ordered the $5 stuff, plus a bit of shipping.
If I find good pure lead for $1.50/lb I buy some, as much as I can afford.
At last count I have 88# of pure tin and close to 700# of 1/25 and near a 1/2ton of pure lead, and pure it is.
I figured I can make my alloy less than $2/lb. counting gas.
$60 for 500 bullets is nuts. But so is $3.40/gal for gasoline

KAF you are right it's crazy but works out to be 4 dollars a pound cast. If the guy buys his lead at market price about 1.25 adds tin uses fuel to melt plus shipping etc not to mention he is selling to the gun shop at wholesale I am surprised it's not more.
Like most of us I have a stash of nice pure lead and tin too. but usually save the pure stuff for Muzzleloaders and buy alloyed up 1/25 for my Schuetzens. No more pistol than I shoot went ahead and did what most of us do when faced with shortages and rising prices, bought 3 boxes.
