Not legal for NRA rules Silhouette  for a number of reasons. weight butt plate and probably not going to fit the stock measurement jig

However at our club's silhouette matches we let anybody shoot about anything just not scored with the rifles that meet class rule. I shoot my Anschutz 54 which is set up just like that rifle sometimes.

Bet Johnson did not stock it, The Johnson I used to own and others I have seen had real ugly stocks. Mine Shot great though. Friend still has it and does well ASSRA bench rest.

Hey All,

I'm not looking for any disagreements with anyone.... just posting a bit of interesting information I found on another " Forum ".

" Louie M.:  I found your Johnson barrel in his shop notes; on the last page, after having started the search on the first, so it was one of the last barrels he made (September, 1951).  "

Glad you were able to track it down.  You have now discovered that not only big companies, but small one man shops as well, may "present" many "rabbits" for the collector to "chase."  Sometimes, the successful pursuit hinges on finding some little detail or some tiny notation in a day book or other ephemeral writing to unlock the secret you are seeking.  Congratulations on a good find and on a firearm to treasure.

WHat Frog Said! That is a very nice gun, indeed. Appleton has some nice finds from time to time. I am lucky to live only 25 minutes from his shop, but unlucky enough to not have the scratch when the items present themselves!!
I am familiar with the gun that Boats refered to. It is not the best finished gun in the world, but I have had a few opportunities to shot it, even two weeks ago whe my marini went a little south. I watched a woman shoot a group just at 5/8" with it using wolf match target ammo. 100 yd bench.
You are lucky to have such a gun, and I think the shooting world lucky to have someone own it that obviously will preserve it for future generations.

I've a origional freeland never mounted of a rifle that you may be interested in. Comes with the base, attaching sliding base and buttpad. Since this hasn't been fitted to a stock a good gunsmith should be able to fit this one to yours. All aluminum and if I can find them the origional mounting screws. Now the best part "its a freebie" Sort of my way to "paying it forward" for all the info and help I've received from the fine folks here. Regards,Frank

Louie, yep I'm serious. First off I used to live in jamaica which is about 15 minutes from where the origional owner used to live. Second, since this has not been fitted to a rifle and although its still aluminum is heavy, so you may or may not have to add weight in the stock bolt hole. And third its a period piece that should go well and look like it belongs there. Send me your address
and I'll let you know when its shipped. Just send me whatever the postage costs are. And before I forget (crs you know) take off the pronged buttplate and see if just the buttplate part I'll send will fit. If not, don't worry any GOOD
gunsmith should be able to fit the whole assembly. I also found the screws and the little freeland's label that it came with. The buttpad has the freeland name on it and the pad itself was made by mershon. And I love martini's even though they don't have visible hammers. Glad you can have it. Frank
