August Westergaard died recently, "Auggie" was the son of well known old time schuetzen shooter Chris Westergaard, and was a champion in his own right. Auggie was the only man I knew who could actually remember the old Schuetzen matches and who once knew many of the old shooters.  Cry

I have a photo of Auggie coaching his grandaughter Amy at the 1989
Coors Schuetzenfest. At that time he was 67 and I wondered how such an old chap could shoot. Now I'm a few months from 73! A few years back leg problems forced him to shoot benchrest only, something he did
not really like.

But it was just a couple of years ago, when winning a match at Eau Claire, WI, that he commented that it was the 72nd anniversary of his first shooting medal!

Augie was a true gentleman as well as a fine shooter. I remember one of his "clinics" when Coors moved to Raton that went well past our bedtime.

Many of our younger shooters may not be aware the Augie was a member of several US shooting teams, including the '52 Olympics.

May he rest in peace.
