David,

I've seen that listing. Mine isn't quite as nice as that, but he is asking over what the new Flayderman's has it at, "pie in the sky" you might say. I actually overlayed the full length photos of the listing and mine to see the difference in barrel length. Evidently the 28" I have must have been a special order, also SN 01X, should be first year production after company reorganization in I think 1898.

4060  - that ball looks very much like the one I have on my highwall, but I used different wood.  The metal is very similar.  I also used it on a Ballard for a while as well.  Mine was made by a pair of friends

David in Montezuma, making the metal hardware for such a set up might be something you could market from your shop to be.  There seems to be a call for these and no one makes them.  I just turned wood for one for a friend and there are a couple of variations of these that may work better on some rifles than others.

Just an idea

4060,
That is the one I remeber the small blurb about in the Journal and in the Dutcher book photo. Is the clamp part a spring steel? I guess I had figured it would be. I have never had the chance to see one, not even as in a picture like yours. Thanks for putting it up!

Merwin,
Mine is extremely similar and it is NOT spring steel.

Maybe I'll try to get a picture up for it.

Brett Boyd had one of those ball lever rests once and it was set up for a high wall. He said they were pretty lever specific and I think a medium tempered spring steel would be a good idea. I made one up using delrin for the gripping portion but it was so slick it would not stay in place!

Willis spring steel will not grip well enough.  Delrin has not a chance.

You can use brass and other plastics however.

I will post photos of mine tomorrow.  I brought it in from the shop along with Paul's ball that I just turned for him.  I'll start a new thread however.

Tang sight screws are 8-40, the same as Ballard. Take out the screw and it will fall apart! Nice rifle!!
