Long term storage

I have been using Break Free Collector on the metal of my guns for about 6 months and Tru Oil or Johnsons Paste Wax on the wood since day one. Used regular Break free and WD40 before that. Recently bought some Snake Oil and have been using it on metal and wood. Looking for input. I like to take each gun out at least once a year, preferably every 6 months and inspect and wipe down again. Of course I do this after every shooting session, but like many of us I have guns that do not get shot often enough.

You might want to try PAL oils. I have never seen numbers to compare relative to metal penetration, etc. Most products do not even supply such data. It's background is military and I use it on the surface and in the bore. Sports PAL, Marine PAL.

There is a product called Zerust Which is a capsule that emits some sort of fumes which keeps metal from corroding. Salt water fishermen use it in thier tackle boxes. I've used it in industry inside delicate instruments in corrosive atmospheres. This stuff works. it can be used in gunsafes or other storage containers. If you will Google Zerust you will find it.

I use a Bullfrog brand vapor phase emitter in a 30mm ammo can for my bullet mold storage.

Ballistol seems to be working very well for me on both metal and wood?

Nope, no Snake Oil.  Been using CLP and RIG for over 20 years with excellent results...CLP inside, RIG on the outside.  I use Johnson's paste wax on the wood.

Other than Parkerized or matte blued steel, I use Johnson's paste floor wax on wood and steel.  No mess or cleanup problems, no problems from sweat, humidity or fingerprints, and it's tough enough to walk on!   Roll Eyes

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I use MinnWax paste on metal and wood, and I've never had storage issues, even with guns that have set for years. I too look them over and wipe the bores out once a year on those that don't get used.
