Schoyen, George C. data & info.?

I am interested in knowing of any articles and or books written on George Schoyen.  Bits and pieces are available in many places, Grant's books, Google searches, etc.  I know that some older ASSRA articles did cover some aspects of his work and I am digging through that source at this current time.  Thank you for your time and assistance.

Ken, the best information I have seen is in the 1971 Silver Anniversary edition of the Gun Digest. The article was written by John Dutcher. John T. Amber was the Editor and was also a Single Shot enthusiast. I do not know if there are more comprehensive articles thatn this but it is well written and seems quite thorough. I would spend some effort on finding a copy if I were you. HTH, Regards, FITZ. Smiley

Fritz,
Thank you for the information, I ordered a copy yesterday.  Roberts/Waters book, "The Breech-Loading Single Shot Rifle" also has a number of paged on Schoyen's rifles and the man himself.
I own two Schoyen customized and barreled .32-40 rifles.  One is a Borchardt with iron sights and an A5 scope, the other is a Sharps (Bridgeport) Model 1874, with iron sights.  The 1874 weighs 13.65 lbs.  Both rifles have hooked stocks and the rifleing is absolutely pristine on both of them.  I have shot the Borchardt but not the 1874, yet!  The Borchart is a better shooter than I am.  The Borchardt trigger was obviously turned by Schoyen and works well, the 1874 has two set triggers which you can trigger by blowing on them if you desire!
Once again, thank you for your information.  Hope I did not bore you too much, both rifles excite me.  Come on summer!!!

Ken

Picture's, we must have picture's! Its a forum rule that you must post picture's of both your rifle's. You cant get on here and tease us ! Thats why we have the rule.  It's under cruel and unusual punishments.

We wait.   Smiley

The Silver Anniversary Gun Digest is great, but also take a look at John Dutcher's book on "Ballard, the Great American Single Shot Rifle". It has numerous pages devoted to Geo. C Schoyen, and his work.

Hi Ken and all.  Thought I'd try to post a pic and see what rig-a-ma-role I had to go through.
Clicked on browse in the reply section, found the pic I wanted on my computer ( in the My Pictures folder) and double clicked it.  Clicked the Post box at the bottom.

Me again.  Wow! It worked!  Seems the main problem might be sizing the picture down to the 250 KB size.  HTH

(1). I have "VISTA", Microsoft's new and much hated system.  Try it, you will "hate" it too!  Anything I learned over the years is no longer functional.
(2). Your suggested proceedure does not work with my system.
(3).  One would think that the ASSRA system would have a "how to"  forum to assist you in this option. I cannot find a single mention of one anywhere?  Can anyone assist me in locating these directions if indeed they do exist?

Sincerely yours,

We do have a section called Forum Help which could help you out. But maybe I can help you post a picture. Just hit reply, type in your message then go down and find the button that says browse, push it, find your picture file, double click it, when you come back to the reply section just press the button for Post (not preview). There you go, It's done.

Test using Vista.  I re-saved the picture to the smallest size and then picked it up with Browse,

Lets see how it turned out

I just got a new puter last fall, and i's got Vista. I have found it much easier than the old Windows system.
Try Photobucket to host pictures free, then post them here.

Thank you for the "click on brouse" directions.  It works fine.  The next task is how to get my greatly oversized photos (I only want to use two of them), shrunk down so they they will be acceptable to transfer.  That is proving another mystery.

If you host them on photobucket, they will be automatically resized when they are uploaded to that site. They have a handy editing function that can make them even smaller if required.

Costs nothing, and is pretty easy to use.

Cheers
