You will need to chamber cast as well as check the bore as the 8.15 bores are all over the place.

I'd suspect that you'll end up closer to .310-.312. Buffalo arms will supply you with an RWS type German stop ring bullet to start out. They can be used for assembled rounds or breech seated. They're not bad.

Hi Roger
My 8.15 X 46R is marked 7.6M/M and the barrel slugs at .316
I know of some that measure .323 ..... so you just have to slug that bore.
Regards, Joe

P.S  See you at the .22R shoot?

Just to add to the discussion.  My 8.15x46 is also marked 7.6mm and slugs out at .310.  Slugging the barrel is the only way t make sure.

'scuse me, but aren't you gents forgetting that the indications back when on German (and other) rifles always gave land diameter of the barrel, not groove diameter...

Martinbelgium is correct: not just German practice but generally in the 19th century. So .303" is the land dia of a Lee-Enfield and the bore is typically 312/314".
According to my own bible on German Schutzen rifles, (Altescheibenwaffen), the groove diameter of an 8.15 x 46R was .316" when new, but it was standard practice to "refresh" the barrels after a few years. I believe that H&N in Germany still make bullets in a variety of diameters up to and including .323".
Slug it.
Fred.

MB has it right, as usual.  My Haenel Original System Aydt is marked 7.7mm and has a .317 groove diameter.
