Help. Does anyone out there know a good reasonably priced engraver that can recut lettering and general engraving? I have a Ballard target rifle that I have been working on and would like some simple engraving done on it and the J. M. Marlin two line address recut.
thanks
Mike

Barry Hands and Angelo Bee do exceptional work - as to price, well you get what you pay for.     Roger

Ken Hurst is a superb engraver and has supported ASSRA for many years.

He has done two of my personal rifles.

Lots of good engravers out there, but I can also recommend Mr. Hurst without hesitation. He is very user friendly. Give him a call at 910-221-5288.

Here is a picture of a bit of scratching he did on a set of Fox barrels:

Way back when I was little more than a chap, I had already done two L.C. Smith restocks before I even touched my first single shot. Have my personal Elsie multi-barrel set in my shop right now for restocking, whenever I get one of them tuit thingies.

I gotta keep reminding youse guys, it's SCHUETZEN AND, not SCHUETZEN ONLY! (VBG)

After all, even the vaunted Double Gun Journal has now changed their covers to read "and Single Shot", and regularly prints splendid articles on extremely interesting single shot rifles. I personally think the two kinda go together quite naturally, sort of like bacon & eggs or scotch & soda or beer &.......well, more beer!
You go, Glenn! Regards, Joe

A good double is just two singleshots mated together.

Heh, heh, that's the same excuse they used at the Nuremburg trials
after WW2. It didn't work then, and it's not going to work now.

Mike,

I have been down this path.  The names suggested already are all 1st rate.  You need to make some decisions up front.  How much area is to be engraved?   What style of engraving do you want?  Do you want gold or silver inlays?  The final question, then is price.  Here are a couple of more engravers.    Both are good to excellent.

Michael Gouse is not expensive.   He is good with simple scroll work.

Geoffroy Gournet is a top guy for bulino.  He can do many styles.  He was trained in Belgium.

have seen work by a lot of engravers. and can say without hesitation, ken hurst shines above them all.

ken is one of the very, very few engravers who can cut a straight line and cut a perfect circle..

when checking out engraving, don't look at the total job.. but, follow a line. it should be a smooth continuous line or curve.. of that, ken is the master..
