A year or two ago Jim Luke had an article about his routine for physical conditioning. I don't recall if it was in the Journal or BPCNews. It was a good read

Don't 12 oz curls count any more?   Undecided

Only if you alternate right and left hand curls...

I recall that Jim Luke's article was in the Journal. As to curls for upper body and arms they probably are not that important. What counts is leg, stomach, and back strength. And as we age, stretch, stretch, and stretch some more!

Collleen Molendyk is beating the pants off the men young and old when she shoots offhand.

Yes she has talent, good young eyes, excellent training and the best of equipment.

But she also works out and maintains her physical condition.

I belong to a fitness center, try to watch my diet , and my friend Chuck Blender also watches his diet " mostly Krispy cremes" BUT he beats me badly every match.  I'll take talent any day over physical conditioning.   leadball

Obviously, there are any number of inherent factors which impact on performance. But if all elements making up the individual are equal the the conditioned shooter will prevail. Each of us can only strive to maximize our skills.

One of the best places to hone your skills and improve your offhand technique is at indoor gallery matches, gallery rifles have no recoil and you don't have to worry about the wind. Considering the weather up there, I suspect the Ron Smith's Niece shoots in indoor matchs up in Alberta.

Schutzenbob,

I asked her that very question a couple years ago when she had just finished kicking my $%^.  She told me she only shoots in match's. No practice.  She didnt blink when she told me that. I remember because I was looking straight into her big blue eyes when she said it. Did I mention she has the most biggest blue eyes you ever seen?  Well, she does!!  I hope she can make it to the spring match in Spokane this year. I never get tired of getting my $%^ kicked my Colleen.   Cheesy
