I have a Winchester low wall rifle in .22 WCF in great mechanical condition and have been shooting .22 Hornets through it with good results . The two have nearly the same dimensions and seem OK but would like feedback on this . Is it safe ?              Earl

Yes, as long as it doesn't crater the primers. And IMO you're extremely fortunate to be getting good results since there's supposedly a lot of difference in the bore sizes. Have you slugged your bore?
Just curious, Joe

Recently came into a Lowall Barrel in .22WCF. Always thought that it was the Blackpowder version of the Hornet. A little research though reveiled that it was supposed to use .228 diameter bullets. Have not slugged it to check yet. I suggest that you slug yours as continued shooting of modern Hornet ammo with .224 Diameter jacketed bullets may well cook out the bore. Soft steel Barrels will not take much of hot loads and undersize bullets before they are spoiled. I do know the .22 High Power, a Savage Caliber did use .228 bullets. Good luck, FITZ. Smiley
