Eric Johnson/Martini SS .22 target rifle

After about 50 years, I dug my rifle out of storage, which I bought in about 1952.  I used it until about 1956 in southern Michigan.

It is in VG condition (my opinion) with Eric Johnson barrel #410 (9/21/39) and a falling block Martini action.  I also have the original (?) AGA (Made in England) hooded front sight and a no name (AGA, too?) iron tube sight with micrometer adjustments for elevation and windage.  The stock appears to be walnut and has an adjustable butt plate.  I have extra main springs and an extra trigger/sear for the action.

Any idea of the interest in this rifle?  Any idea of the value?

You might try John Appleton's web site. It will show you what other Martini's are bringing. Yours should probably bring more with the Johnson barrel and Tube sight ($200 Plus on rear sight on ebay)

I bought an Eric Johnson Ballard with sights (front globe; rear tube)
bbl #786 - was made for Creighton Audette of Palma Match fame.
paid $1000 and it is a shooter.  Its worth whatever you can get.
If you have any good 100yd or 200 yd targets to show with the rifle
it always helps make a sale.  Welcome aboard -you have a good day -

Rimfire:  Well, targets!  It has been 50 years, plus or minus, so I have none.  I'm glad you have had good luck with yours.  I call my front sight "hooded," I assume that is what you are calling "globe."  Mine had replaceable target images such as circles on posts, blank circles with a center holes, etc.  I have lost all of them in seven moves except a post with a circle on it which targets the bullseye.

According to Michael Petrov, my barrel was matched with action 59532 and sold to someone in Union, NJ.  The action I have is the same, but I bought it in Detroit.  The interim provenance is a mystery.

I believe there are copies of the original Eric Johnson shop records in the ASSRA archives.  If so, information on your SN should be quite reasonable. If not, Archivist Rudi Prusok can probably tell you who to contact.

I have gotten info on two different EJ Ballards from Rudi - I think the charge is $5 for each item - but it is nice to have and keep with the rifle -but you had better check with him.

Sorry for the delay, we have been traveling.  Correction to my original message:  The serial # of the Eric Johnson barrel is #411.  MP has corrected his original info and informs me it was sold to a person in Detroit.  That is where I bought it, and it is where I used it.  I think I paid about $100 ca. 1952!

I have decided to donate the rifle to a local gun club for use by a kid who cannot afford his/her own rifle.  It is the Zia Club here in Albuquerque.

Thanks to all for your interest in helping me learn about this old rifle!

very nice considerate thing to do Gary.
some kid or kids will have a real privilege learning with it, hopefully for generations to come.

might be a lesson there for all of us who bemoan the lack of "new shooters" to our ranks.

I delivered the rifle, a shooting jacket, sling, spares, etc. today.  I wish I had done it many years ago.  Better late than never!

P. S.  The club is the Zia Rifle and Pistol Club located south of Albuquerque.
