Hi,

I am new to this forum and in fact found it trying to research a rifle I picked up.  I am hoping the experts here can help tell me what model this 44-1/2 is.  Thanks,

john

Does it say anything on the front of the action?  If you loosen the set screw and unscrew the barrel/forend, there is usually a model number stamped into the front of the receiver.

It looks on the outside like the "Pope Model," with the lever and palm rest.  The Stevens company emphasized that on this model no money would be spent on engraving or other fanciness so that the cash-strapped target shooter could afford to compete with the best.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Appears to be a Stevens 45 with optional set triggers, and optional Pope lever.

Yes it is marked 45 on the front of the frame.  I guess it did not seem to fit that model according to what I have read.  I suppose at that time special orders were more common and that is why the DST and Pope lever are present.

The owner said her father had several barrels for this years ago but the ones that were not attached to the rifle have gone missing long ago.  This is a factory Stevens .22lr tube with great bore, but sadly mis-matched to the rest of the rifle.

It shoots great and is in unfooled with condition, any guess as to what the value is?

Thanks for all your help,
john
