Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Thanks Joe!
I just took the Fecker off my Winchester 52 because I found a Bausch & Lomb Balvar 24 to put on it. So I sold the Fecker for what the Balvar 24 cost.
I too stick with the smaller external scopes mostly. I prefer the 8x-12x scopes, with smaller objectives. I'm using the 10x Unertl on my Stevens 47, and a 8x Fecker on my Schoyen Ballard.

I think the best Unertl for a Schuetzen rifle is a BV. Shorter than the others, larger diamater and only made in 20 power.  Problem is other people see it the same way.  I have not seen any for under 700 bucks.

A local machine shop, Baerwald & Qualmann, makes a weaver style scope base that slips over the dovetail mounts so you can put a modern scope on without having to drill /tap more holes. their number is 1-920-349-3422.  I use one on my BSA and another friend has one for his M12 H& R. I will attach a photo if I can figure out how. Joe S
