Quarter Bore Questions

Am thinking about putting together a rifle for the quarter bore competition.   What is the hot setup now?  12" twist?  10?  Who is making good .25 caliber moulds?

I borrowed Ron Smith's quarter bore on a highwall and was so impressed at it's performance I am in the process of making up my own.

Ron is making quarter bores in what he refers to as the 25 RKS.
It is based on a 357 Max. case and drives the bullets at 1800 fps without gas checks and without any leading problems. Great improvement in accuracy for a quarter bore (it performs as well as the 32 calibers). Now if we could just figure out how to see those little holes better under certain light conditions.

Wayne vietz shot a 250 with his .25-20SS at the last quarter bore match. The rifle has a 12 inch twist Shilen barrel.

Yes, he did.  Wayne sat in my livingroom Saturday and told me he thought he would go with Shilen and 12" twist.  He did say some are using 10" though.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

What kind of bullet weights are they shooting with the 12" twist? Can the 12" twist stabilize the longer 105 gr. bullets?

Is someone making a #2 or #3  weight octagon barrel in a 1-12 twist?
