Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Ballard surprise

Imagine my surprise! I bought a Ballard #2 Hunter in .38 Long that looked like it was a bare receiver in the pictures. When it came this week I opened the box to find a early JM Marlin #2 that is all nickled, except the barrel!
Here I thought I got a project that needed some TLC for a cheap price, only to find out it was a variation I didn't have! It's not perfect, but it's got a beautiful bore, solid wood, and plenty of barrel blue.  All original nickle, and original sights too!
Guess I'll load up some round balls in .38 cases, and give her a little range time! Wink

Congratulations on a super find.  Just remember how well you came, in case the next deal does not turn out quite so well.

Marlinguy:

What you need is a good #2 in .32rf with original target sights.

Very nice, I'm jealous!  It seems surprisingly hard to find complete original Marlin Ballards, more so than with other makes.  At least it is for me.

Looked in the safe, and darn if there isn't a #2 in there with DST, and target sights already! And it's a .32 Long! Wink

I don't seem to have any problem finding #2's. I found a #2 in .38 Long, with DST at Reno last month, and a #2 in .44 Ballard XL last year. They're still reasonably priced, and mostly extremely nice guns that I've found. This one (the fourth) is the lowest condition of the four #2's I own.
I've had my eye on a special order delxue #2 that a friend has, but I don't think he's gonna cut loose of it any time soon!
