Was lokinf at a rifle on said action at this site:

A similar rifle (or maybe the same one) by this company was featured in Rifle mag recently. My question is this: what is the pin protruding from the upper left rear corner of the receiver for?

My guess is that it's their version of a safety.

Is it a loaded chamber or cocking indicator?

Looks like a button for a lanyard to retain the rifle in a scabbard. But I'm just guessing.

Likely a pin in the wall upon which the rifle was resting when the picture was taken, and then the picture was inverted!

Gentlemen,
The button on the left side of this Farquharson is the origional rear scope mount. A hook on the rear scope ring slid around the button and a Holland-type lever attached the front ring to its base. Odd that they put a scope on such a heavy-caliber rifle [at that time], but they did. I felt eliminating the post during the action rehabilitation was unnecessary, even though the origional scope and its mounts are long lost.
Regards,
Nathan Heineke

Nathan;

    Thank you for the answer to this little brain teaser. Actually I wondered if it might have something to do with sighting but couldn't envision how. Is th erifle shown on the web page the same one featured in the Nov. Rifle magazine? Beautifol work, beautiful rifle! I have been admiring the butt pad and wondering where one like it might be obtained.

Thank you, Don, I appreciate your kind comments regarding the rifle. In response to your question, I do install Purdey-style pads (leather-covered pads). They are specific to to each rifle (or gun) and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have. You can contact me through the website nlheineke.com. Thank you.
