I shoot 311299 and 314299 without GC in a Martini 30WCF bench gun; and with GC in a M54 Winchester 30WCF. I've shot 311299 in many 30 caliber guns, 300 WM Ruger#1, 40X and Savage Tactical, 30/06 various, etc. With GC in some guns it will average/has averaged ~.9" for 5 five-shot 100 yard groups. In the M54 it averages 1 1/4" or so. In the Martini it's won or placed in several/many matches, and will average-last time out-.860" for 5 five shopt 100 yard groups.
In both 30WCF 12.5/12.0AA#9 or 14.5 IMR4227 are about the best, a not to AA#9 -a little better. At these velocities it doesn't matter if the GC is on or not as far as accuracy is concerned, but I think the GC helps when loading fixed-not much bullet is in the case.
I'm trying to get a breech-seating tool made but I don't work metal or design very well, and I'm a little concerned about whacking the Lyman STS, Martinis don't breech seat bigger bullets easily.
The Bill McGraw .065" PVC wad seems to help, but around 1" it's hard to tell if the Miami heat or the gusting wind or the tremor or the rocking bench rest table are screwing me up. Since June including yesterday all the shooters carry a small towel to wipe the sweat off before and during shooting. That doesn't help.

I've been working with the Martini for ~15 years, the M54 for ~3.
Some day I hope to shoot those .2's and .3's I read about.

But they don't shoot any better than with all the grooves lubed, and I feel guilty not filling them. Look at the CBA guys with big 30 caliber bullets and 1 grease groove.

I keep trying and hope that accuracy will improve with less lube.
Amazing how little lube is needed.

Joe,

I'm just curious; Do the GC bullets shoot as well with, or without the check?

The question of how much lube is needed, combined with the GC on or off question seems to be one of those experiments where two variables are being considered at once: How do you know which change is causing the experimental differences?

Good morning,
Forrest

Joe,

I wasn't questioning your load or perfromance really; just looking for evidence of lube purging and so forth as in the thread above.

You're evidently doing quite well shooting check bullets without the check. Why not get a good PB design for that kind of shooting instead?

Good morning,
Forrest
