Rifle club membership central Virginia

We will be accepting membership applications for our Club.

It's a long story but briefly we have an old club with a large property and small membership.  A few neighbors found a loophole in our 40 yr old use permit and tried to shut us down. We presented the county with a plan to re-build our ranges and bring them up to modern standards.  Our request for a new permit was granted and when we complete improvements it will be one of the best shooting facility's in the Mid Atlantic.

We will have to increase our membership to finance the improvements. Our waiting list has been very long but now there is a chance to join with no wait. I would like to see more Schuetzen activity and if any ASSRA members in the area are interested send me a message.

Boats, some more info. Where is Club located? Town, Size, current membership etc. How much to join? I am close to retirement and my Son is living in Schuyler Va. Virginia is high on my list of places to retire to. You can either post here or send me an email on the site.
Regards, FITZ.

Basically there are three large and fairly active clubs in Central VA. These are Roanoke RRC, Izaak Walton R&P in Madison Heights, and Rivanna R&P in Charlottesville.

I’ve also heard of a small clubs in Altavista and Bedford County which have very limited membership. Green Frog might be able to shed more light on the Altavista range.

RRRC has multiple ranges which includes a 500 & 100 yard rifle range and an active membership. The IWL R&P has a 50 yard pistol range and 300 yard rifle range. At the IWL R&P and RRRC there is a very active core group of members that promote the shooting sports.  For both of these clubs, the core members are very active in teaching and the FNRA banquets.

The IWL R&P had a rough experience with neighbors 8-10 years ago. There are people who orchestrated the necessary changes to keep this range open still in the area and might be a good source of information.

I moved from Lynchburg to Houston in April of this year. I was very active in the IWL R&P, pistol class instruction, and FNRA for years. I can provide contact information for IWL R&P and RRRC to help connect you with people who may be willing to help. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Altavista, or more closely Hurt, VA is the site of the Brushy Mtn Club.  Although it is primarily a clay sports club, hosting both Skeet and Sporting Clays tourneys regularly, it is a fairly large club in both acreage and membership and it has a nice new R&P range with 12 covered firing points, concrete benches,  and berms spaced out to 300 yds.  I'd like to try to get some single shooting going there, and the leadership is amenable.   Wink

Bedford has a smaller club that is primarily a pistol club with the various action type disciplines being the most frequently run.  They have a downhill 100 yd range and are contemplating a push out to the proper 200 but only with a limited number of firing points.  Their bench situation is pretty poor and they only have 3-4 of those covered.  They would entertain a small schuetzen match, but the range would probably be a pretty poor facility for it.   Embarrassed

I am a member of both clubs, each for its own purposes, and Boats, please drop me a PM or send me a real e-mail and let me know whether my membership and participation in the club you mention would also be a possibility.  You can't be in too many shooting clubs!!  Roll Eyes

Froggie

PS to FITZ:  Stop making lists and get yourself on down here.  We've got a few spaces left on our Yankee immigrant quota but they're filling up fast with those $^#$@^&* undesirable liberals!  Angry  We could really use a few more like yourself to help balance things out!  Cheesy  GF

Will gladly do so.  Anyone wanting a forwarded edition of Boats' email to me can use my personal email,  gfrogATyahoo.com (you know how to make that work!  Wink ) and I'll get to it more quickly.
