Dell Lube Pump

I have taken a picture of two Dell lube pumps, one assembled and ready to use and the other in "exploded view" mode. The picture is self explanatory except to say that a specially bored insert goes in the big end (on the right of the picture) to hold a specific bullet...you must have an insert for each different bullet design you wish to lube.  The brown stick below the body of the pump is one of my carefully hoarded stash of Charlie's #35 M lube and the T-handle to turn the new pump has not been installed yet.

HTH, and if anyone needs any further info, please feel free to yell.  BTW, singleshot (aka Willis G) on this board has the tooling and might be persuaded to make one for you and you and you if you wish.

Regards, Froggie

That's pretty simple to follow, I can make all of that from the picture....except  what's going on in side this? I can't make that with out knowing.

Pete Allan, Allan Foundry, 10591 Nassau St. N.E., Blaine, MN 55449, phone (763) 786-2186, makes raw castings for this lube pump head.  It's been a few years since I bought any from, him, but the price was pretty reasonable.

To Doubled and others who are considering making their own version of the Pope style pump as modified by Charlie Dell, the "head" unit as shown below holds the inserts mentioned in my post.  These are each made from a cylinder 3/4" in diameter (Charlie's aluminum example on the left and one of Delrin by 40Rod on the right) and bored through with a 1/4" hole.  It is rebated slightly through the middle of its circumference, a series of holes or slots to allow grease to enter the chamber and an O-ring at each end to seal it.  This insert is, as previously stated, precisely cut on the inside to fit a specific bullet.

The threaded shank toward the left is hollow so the lube grease can enter the chamber, and the little hole you see drilled at an angle is threaded for a set screw to retain the insert.  Finally, the rod and plug entering from the top is to eject the freshly lubed bullet.  If I were going to make only one or two, I would either do as Charlie did on his first ones and solder up a composite piece to make this head, or just buy the needed number of head castings from Pete Allan as mentioned by 38_Cal.

HTH, Froggie

I can make that also. Let's see Lathe is in Idaho,  I am in South Africa.  Better save this to archives.

Froggie,
Thanks for the pictures.  Just what I wanted to see.  I've printed them out and stuck in my copy of "The Modern Schutzen Rifle"
